Job Description

Job Title: Behavioral Health Urgent Care Clinician – Overnight (3rd Shift)

  • Company: Heritage Behavioral Health Center
  • Location: Decatur, IL – Behavioral Health Urgent Care & Crisis Observation
  • Job Type: Full-Time
  • Schedule: 11:00 PM – 8:00 AM, including weekends and holidays as scheduled
  • Pay: $23.00 – $28.85 per hour, based on education and experience, plus a paid wellness day every other week

This position is eligible for shift differential for 3rd shift.

Make a difference when it matters most, overnight.

Heritage Behavioral Health Center is hiring an overnight Urgent Care Clinician for our 24/7 Behavioral Health Urgent Care and Crisis Observation unit in Decatur. When someone in crisis walks through our doors in the middle of the night, you’ll be the first clinical person they meet. You’ll assess, de-escalate, and connect them to the care they need in a calm, person-centered, trauma-informed way.

On the overnight shift, you’ll have more independence and a broader scope. When our daytime assessment team is off, you’ll also complete full behavioral health assessments (IM+CANS) and substance use assessments (ASAM), so you’ll build well-rounded clinical skills fast.

You won’t be alone. You’ll work alongside Recovery Support Specialists (peer staff), with clinical supervision and full training before you take on independent coverage.

Compensation

Pay is based on education and experience, and every level includes a paid wellness day every other Friday:

  • High school diploma or GED + 5 years’ experience: $23.00/hour
  • Bachelor’s degree: starting at $25.00/hour
  • Master’s degree: $28.85/hour or $60,000/year

Additional compensation is available for candidates with professional licensure (LSW, LPC, LCPC, LCSW) or certifications such as CADC.

  • Complete the Illinois Medicaid Crisis Assessment Tool (IM-CAT) and a substance use screening for every individual

  • Reassess individuals in Crisis Observation at least every 4 hours and track the 23-hour observation window
  • Coordinate discharge, outpatient follow-up, or transfer to our Crisis Stabilization Unit or inpatient care
  • Provide case management and linkage for individuals at high risk of suicide or overdose
  • Coordinate warm hand-offs with Mobile Crisis Response, the Crisis Call Center, emergency departments, and community partners
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation in the electronic health record

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field plus 2 years of supervised clinical experience in mental health
  • 5 years of documented, supervised mental health or substance use experience
  • Illinois LPN license
  • DHS-approved Certificate of Psychiatric Rehabilitation, plus a high school diploma or GED and 2 years of mental health experience

You’ll Also Need

  • The ability to stay calm, organized, and clinically sharp during a crisis
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Willingness to complete paid onboarding: IM-CAT certification, suicide risk assessment, de-escalation (CPI or equivalent), naloxone administration, and trauma-informed care
  • Basic computer skills and comfort with electronic health records

Nice to Have
