The mission of The Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center (The Ashe Center) is to empower UCLA students to achieve their educational goals by providing accessible, high-quality health and wellness services.

Our comprehensive services include Primary Care, Gynecology Services, Immunizations, Travel Medicine, Physical Therapy, Specialty Clinics, Radiology & Laboratory, and Acupuncture – all under one roof!

We are also pleased to offer additional services in the Ackerman Student Union: a full-service optometry center, U See LA Optometry, and the Bruin Health Pharmacy. UCLA's student health center and its suite of services consistently rank as best in the nation.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Primary Care Assistant Medical Director supports the mission of the organization by supervising the physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who provide day-to-day delivery of health care and medical services in Primary Care Units including but not limited to Continuity, Triage, Immunization and RN Services at the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center (AASHWC).

The Primary Care Assistant Medical Director is a member of the Medical Quality and Improvement Committee, Clinical Oversight Committee, Infection Control Committee, Quality Improvement Committee, and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

The Primary Care Assistant Medical Director is responsible for other activities related to health care such as peer review, patient satisfaction, physician-APP collaborative practice (including furnishing), clinician professionalism and conduct, recruiting, credentialing and assessment processes.

The Primary Care Assistant Medical Director takes an active role in ensuring access and quality, overseeing utilization, and participating in operational and resource management and compliance. The Primary Care Assistant Medical Director also engages in direct patient care.

Qualifications

Primary Care Residency Training: Completion of residency training in primary care (e. g. Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, etc.). (Required)

• 3+ Years Experience working as a primary care physician in an outpatient or urgent care setting. (Preferred)
• 1+ Years Experience working as a direct supervisor or manager of clinicians. (Preferred)
• Knowledge of disease, prevention, and health promotion needs of late adolescent and adult injuries. (Required)
• Knowledge and experience in treatment of common, acute and chronic illnesses and injuries. (Required)

Skill in interviewing needed to understand the medical and psycho-social needs of patients and skill in counseling needed to help patients deal with acute and chronic medical problems. (Required)

Skill and ability to communicate verbally and in written communication, and effectively provide medical treatment to a student population of diverse cultural, ethnic/racial backgrounds and sexual orientations. (Required)

Skill and ability in working as a member of a team with other clinical staff, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff. Provide effective consultation for physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses. (Required)

Skill and ability to work effectively with staff of diverse cultural ethnic/racial backgrounds and sexual orientations. (Required)

Knowledge of student health policies and procedures and understanding of the health care needs of a college campus. (Required)

Knowledge of legal and professional requirements for quality patient care. (Required)

Skill in organizing and prioritizing work when faced with competing deadlines, and interruptions and ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required)

Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems, interpret policies and demonstrate solid subject matter knowledge. (Required)

Possess leadership skills to support the organization's strategic direction. (Required)

Skill and ability to assess, monitor and manage employee performance. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from an accredited medical or osteopathic school. (Required)

Current California medical license (Required)

Board certification in an applicable primary care specialty (e. g. Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, etc.) (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

• Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
• Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
• TB Test: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.

CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
