Radiation Therapists implement plans of treatment, prescribed by an oncologist and created by a medical dosimetrist, and use accelerators and ionizing radiation-producing equipment to treat diseases, primarily different kinds of cancer. The radiation is administered in therapeutic doses and can send certain localized forms of cancer into remission. It can also be used to prevent the recurrence of particularly malignant forms of cancer after surgery. This role offers many opportunities to grow within our clinic and the organization.

A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 7:30AM – 7:00PM.

This role is a Monday through Friday possibility, but completely flexible on what a caregiver is willing to pick up. They do not need to cover the early shift (7AM) and they are NOT required to take call. Shifts are typically 4-8 hours.

A caregiver who excels in this role will

  • Determine and deliver appropriate patient treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists.
  • Monitor and document patient's condition and report any adverse reactions.
  • Assess and educate patients according to specific department protocols.
  • Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately.
  • Check and adjust necessary equipment, including linear accelerators.
  • Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Graduate of a CAHEA approved School of Radiation Therapy technology or registry eligible

Registered Radiation Therapist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), R. T.(R)(T)(ARRT) in good standing

Current state licensure as a Radiation Therapist

Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • Experience with radiation oncology specific electronic medical records as well as record and verify
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Can communicate and relate well with patients who are under physical and emotional stress
  • Can utilize computer programs to input database and capture information
  • Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Experience with external radiation therapy, IMRT, IGRT and CT simulation

Physical Requirements

  • Requires ability to perform duties while walking, standing, stooping, reaching and lifting.
  • Requires ability to lift materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Requires ability to push/pull over 100 lbs to assist patients.
  • Requires dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions.
  • Requires Safe Operating Procedure for x-ray generating equipment.
  • Requires ability to work the hours of operation – flexible.
