About the Role

Registered Dietitian – Diabetes Education

Help patients build the knowledge and confidence to successfully manage diabetes.

At Northeast Georgia Health System, we’re looking for an experienced Registered Dietitian to join our Diabetes Education team as a Diabetes Educator. This specialized role combines your expertise in nutrition with comprehensive diabetes education, giving you the opportunity to help patients better understand and manage their diabetes through individualized education, nutrition counseling and ongoing support.

As an integral member of the Diabetes Education team, you’ll work with patients across the lifespan, from pediatric through geriatric populations, providing diabetes and nutrition assessment, education, individualized meal planning and follow-up care. You’ll also provide individual and group education and contribute to the continued growth of our outpatient diabetes education services.

What You’ll Do

Provide individualized nutrition and diabetes assessments for patients enrolled in the Diabetes Education Program, developing personalized nutrition and education plans based on each patient’s needs.

Provide nutrition counseling, meal planning and education on diabetes self-management to patients and their families or support persons.

Provide follow-up diabetes and nutrition education based on individual patient needs.

Lead group nutrition education for individuals with diabetes, including education for women with gestational diabetes.

Select educational materials and teaching approaches appropriate for different ages, learning needs and patient populations.

  • Work as an active member of the Diabetes Education team to coordinate patient care and support program goals.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of nutrition care and diabetes education.
  • Serve as a diabetes and nutrition resource for patients, families, NGHS team members and the community.
  • Participate in wellness and community education programs related to diabetes, nutrition and healthy living.
  • Provide nutrition counseling to patients receiving care through Wound, Ostomy and Continence services as needed.
  • Support quality improvement activities and requirements associated with diabetes program recognition.
  • What You’ll Need

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration, or eligible for registration.
  • Licensed Dietitian in the State of Georgia.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Dietitian.

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification at hire or ability to obtain within two years of hire. This two-year pathway is also reflected in prior recruiting guidance for this role.

Ability to provide nutrition care and education to a variety of age groups, from pediatric through geriatric populations.

Why This Role?

This position goes beyond traditional nutrition counseling. You’ll have the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with patients, provide both individual and group education, collaborate with an interdisciplinary diabetes team, and contribute to programs that extend into the community.

If you’re an experienced dietitian who is passionate about diabetes education, medical nutrition therapy and empowering patients to take an active role in their health, we’d love to connect with you.
