Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Director to provide professional oversight for a physician-owned clinical laboratory.

The Laboratory Director will ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including CLIA, New York State Department of Health (if applicable), and other accrediting agencies.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience directing physician office laboratories and a strong understanding of laboratory quality management, regulatory compliance, and operational oversight.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the designated Laboratory Director for the physician-owned laboratory.
• Ensure compliance with CLIA, state, and federal laboratory regulations.
• Establish and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs.
• Review and approve laboratory testing menus, validation studies, and quality control procedures.
• Provide consultation regarding laboratory operations, testing methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee proficiency testing and corrective action processes.
• Conduct periodic laboratory reviews and inspections.
• Assist with preparation for inspections by regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Ensure proper documentation of laboratory personnel qualifications and competency assessments.
• Review and sign required laboratory reports, attestations, and compliance documentation.
• Provide guidance regarding laboratory safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Be available for consultation regarding laboratory-related clinical and operational matters.

Qualifications

Required

• MD, DO, PhD, or other qualifications meeting CLIA requirements for Laboratory Director.
• Current unrestricted professional license, where applicable.
• Minimum of 2 years of laboratory director or laboratory oversight experience.
• Thorough knowledge of CLIA regulations and laboratory quality standards.
• Experience with physician office laboratories, diagnostic laboratories, or specialty laboratories.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Preferred

• New York State Laboratory Director eligibility or experience.
• Experience with waived, moderate complexity, or high-complexity testing.
• Experience with point-of-care testing programs.
• Prior experience with physician-owned laboratories.

• Independent Contractor (1099) position.
• Compensation range: $1,000–$1,250 biweekly, negotiable based on experience, qualifications, and scope of responsibilities.
