Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Vision Rehabilitation, the Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) carries out specialized vision rehabilitation teaching and provides direct service to assigned consumers who are legally blind.

Job Responsibilities

Provides individualized vision rehabilitation instruction and support to adults and children who are legally blind, promoting independence, safety, and overall well-being.

Conducts ongoing assessments to identify strengths, needs, barriers, and goals related to vision loss and develops services accordingly.

Connects consumers with adaptive equipment, community resources, and additional support services to maximize functioning and independence.

Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, community agencies, low vision specialists, and other service providers to ensure coordinated, culturally competent care.

Completes required documentation, case records, reporting, and NYSCB contract outcomes; participates in professional development and supports/trains Blind Services staff.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy with one year of experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree in a related field with two years of experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy or related field with three years of experience preferred.
  • AER Certification in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy required, with recertification every five years.

Valid New York State driver’s license and/or reliable transportation required; satisfactory background checks/clearances required.

Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and sound judgment skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Culturally competent with knowledge of community resources and issues related to legal blindness/visual impairments; ability to travel and meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 10

Salary $55,000 - $60,000 annually.
