Locum NP (Nurse Practitioner), PA (Physician's Assistant) Neurosurgery

This contract, on-site position offers an opportunity for entry-level clinicians to gain hands-on experience in a specialized neurosurgical setting while supporting patient care within a collaborative medical environment.

In this role, you will work alongside neurosurgeons and multidisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive pre-operative, post-operative, and outpatient care to neurosurgery patients. The position is ideal for early-career NPs and PAs seeking to build clinical expertise in neurosurgical practice within the healthcare industry.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations for neurosurgery patients
• Assist neurosurgeons with pre-operative and post-operative patient management
• Develop and implement individualized patient care plans under physician supervision
• Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and imaging studies
• Prescribe medications and manage treatment regimens in accordance with practice protocols
• Provide patient and family education on neurosurgical conditions and procedures
• Monitor patient recovery, manage pain, and address post-operative complications
• Document clinical encounters accurately in electronic health records
• Collaborate with nursing staff, therapists, and other healthcare professionals
• Participate in clinic workflows, patient triage, and follow-up scheduling
• Adhere to clinical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and quality standards

Requirements

• Active and unrestricted licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in New Mexico
• Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program with current board certification
• Entry-level experience; new graduates and early-career clinicians are encouraged to apply
• Strong foundational knowledge of neurosurgical conditions and perioperative care
• Proficiency in clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and patient management
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems and clinical documentation standards
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to work independently under physician supervision in a fast-paced clinical setting
• Valid DEA registration and current BLS certification preferred
• Willingness to commit to a contract assignment and on-site schedule in Albuquerque

Schedule: 7 days on/7 days off or 3-4 days per week

No call requirement

Setting: Inpatient

Patient Census: 13-20 per day

Responsibilities: Comprehensive preoperative and postoperative complex patient management

Case Types: Emergency, vascular, spinal, and cranial neurosurgery

Support Staff: Residents and faculty

Must be board-certified
