Pharmacist Supervisor

Full-Time Rotate

The Pharmacist Supervisor oversees the employees and processes within the
pharmacy. Additionally, ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local laws
and regulations. May also advise physicians on medication utilization.
Responsible for the direction and management of daily pharmacy functions, drug
stock, drug storage, drug distribution and the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
Assumes primary responsibility for all pharmacy operations when the Director is
not available thereby providing a leadership role to ensure the provision of
pharmaceutical care and products to neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and
geriatric patients of the hospital, including inpatients and outpatients. If
so, assigned will also serve as the Pharmacist in Charge as designated by the
Texas State Board of Pharmacy and will perform all duties as 
defined in the Texas Pharmacy Rules for the Pharmacist-in-Charge of an
Institutional Pharmacy (Class C). Completes established competencies for the
position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as
assigned.

Responsibilities

General Management

* Supports established goals and objectives that support overall strategic
plans of the facility/Baptist Health System 
* Monitors the annual department operating and capital budgets 
* Supervises daily operations of assigned departments 
* Supervises performance of staff 
* Demonstrates objectivity in decision making, utilizing facts to support
decisions 
* Supports the mission statement, policies and procedures of the Baptist Health
System 
* Participates in eliminating boundaries to achieve integrated, efficient and
quality service 
* Achieves ongoing compliance with all regulatory agencies 
* Serves as a resource to employees and customers as demonstrated by visibility
and knowledge of issues 
* Demonstrates flexibility in response to change 
* Anticipates and responds to problems and risks 
* Communicates effectively with all levels in the organization and with
inter/external customers 

People Management

* Assists in selection of personnel for hire and promotion; takes appropriate
actions regarding counseling, disciplinary actions, demotion and termination 
* Supervises, supports and coaches direct reports 
* Responds proactively to employee needs and concerns 
* Assists with development of  “experts” and “expertise” throughout the
department and seeks employee input 
* Facilitates consensus among divergent groups 
* Minimizes staff turnover 
* Conveys employees’ strengths and accomplishments
* Assists in evaluating assigned staff performance and competency, providing
direct feedback 
* Supports competency plans 

Department/Business Unit Functions

* Supervises and directs pharmacy personnel. Verifies the daily activities of
pharmacy technicians, interns and residents. 
* Supervises Automated Dispensing System activities to include inventory
adjustments, reports and troubleshooting problems 
* Develops work schedules and assigns staffing duties to provide efficient
provision of pharmaceutical care.  Assists the Director in the analysis of
staffing requirements 
* Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions and medication
occurrences. 
* Recommends improvement in pharmacy or facility processes that will decrease
the potential for adverse outcomes. 
* Utilizes formulary initiatives and clinical review to provide adequate pain
management for the patient 
* Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician request 
* Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to
computerized patient medication profiles 
* Oversees central or facility purchasing activities if assigned. 
* Maintains the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing
therapeutic 
* substitution protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection 
* Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for patients 
* Documents all clinical activities and interventions 
* Functions as the Pharmacist in Charge according to Texas State Board of
Pharmacy, if assigned 
* Assists with the education of new employees, pharmacy students and residents 
* Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively 
* Maintains safe environment 
* Addresses patient population-specific needs 
* Participates in Performance Improvement activities

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited College of Pharmacy
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master's Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3 years or residency training; 2 years supervisory

experience

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State Board of
Pharmacy License
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: IV Admixture Certification
