JOB SUMMARY

Works under general supervision to provide routine technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to particular field of science.

The Dr. Briggs lab focuses on how parasitic helminth infections shape host immunity, including the mechanisms that determine protective immunity, immune tolerance, and the broader bystander consequences of chronic infection. His group integrates experimental models, human immunology, and field-based studies to understand host-parasite interactions and translate those insights toward improved vaccines, diagnostics, and new therapeutic approaches for infectious and inflammatory diseases.
Candidate will assist with:
mouse infection studies
animal husbandry coordination
tissue collection
sample processing
support human translational studies through PBMC isolation, biospecimen processing, and laboratory organization
perform molecular and immunologic assays including flow cytometry, ELISA, nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, and cell culture
maintain laboratory records, inventory, and experimental documentation
participate in data analysis and gradually develop independent experimental and analytical skills under supervision
contribute to collaborative projects involving immunology, parasitology, global health, and vaccine development.

Education
Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, medical technology or relevant field or
High School Diploma including courses in basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc. or GED Equivalent
Experience
1 year of experience as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with Completion of two (2) years of college or
3 years of laboratory experience including two years as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School diploma or GED equivalent

JOB DUTIES

Assists in conducting experiments and working on research problems in such fields as physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry, and other related fields by performing basic, routine, and least complex procedures as prescribed by supervisor. Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus. Records resulting data in accordance with established methods. Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained, and modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned. SECURITY AND EEO STATEMENT
