Job Description

The Department of Community and Behavioral Health is searching for a candidate for a 50%25 Research Support Coordinator that will support a community-engaged research program that develops and delivers disaster preparedness education for older adults.

The position supports the research team by assisting with grant exploration and proposal preparation, post-award administration, and compliance with University of Iowa policies and state and federal regulations.

In addition to these core duties, the coordinator develops accessible training materials, supports scholarly writing, leads stakeholder engagement, and trains partner organizations to deliver the intervention program in their own communities (train-the-trainer).

Responsibilities

Grant Exploration and Development

  • Communicate funding opportunities to the research team and maintain a database of grant applications.
  • Assist with coordinating, collecting, and preparing data and materials for research and grant proposals.
  • Evaluate requests for proposals (RFPs), review proposals for completeness, and route proposals through required University channels.
  • Assist with literature reviews that support proposals, program design, and scholarly products.

Post-Award Administration

May assist with preparing and submitting post-award financial and material reports and schedules for the University and granting agencies.

Compliance

Monitor compliance with contract and grant terms in accordance with University policies and state and federal regulations.

Ensure that training modules and program materials meet accessibility requirements, so that content is usable by older adults, including those with disabilities, and by partner organizations.

Support regulatory committee submissions and approvals as needed (for example, IRB), consistent with University, state, and federal requirements.

Research Program Development and Scholarly Support

Assist with the development of training modules and educational materials for the intervention program.

Update and adapt the program based on feedback from community partners, documenting changes and their rationale.

Help with literature reviews, draft abstracts, and review manuscripts for accuracy, clarity, and consistency with the project's findings.

Stakeholder Engagement and Training

Lead the quarterly Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) meetings, including scheduling, preparing agendas and materials, facilitating discussion, recording minutes, and following up on action items.

Provide live and online train-the-trainer sessions for participating organizations interested in delivering disaster preparedness education to older adults.

Gather and organize feedback from SAB members, trainees, and partner organizations to inform program improvements.

Operational and Administrative Support

  • Manage all inquiries that come into the research team about the intervention program, responding directly or routing to the appropriate team member.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings and events in support of the research.
  • May recruit research participants, monitor research protocols, assist with data collection, analysis, and management, and serve as a local site coordinator.
  • May maintain website content related to the program.

External Communication and Negotiations

Responsible for limited external communications, including correspondence with community partners, SAB members, participating organizations, and program inquirers.

Leadership and Supervision

  • May provide functional and/or administrative supervision of staff or student assistants.
  • Serves as a lead point of contact for the SAB and for organizations being trained.
  • Required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience supporting research, grants, or program administration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience facilitating meetings or advisory groups
  • Experience developing or delivering training, ideally for adult learners
