Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced health counselor as the primary counselor and intervention specialist for an NIH/NCI-funded behavioral clinical trial with low-income caregivers who smoke/use tobacco and have children exposed to tobacco smoke in their homes. The primary responsibilities of this person will be to oversee the day-to-day operations of the smoking intervention scheduling, data management and delivery, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. For example, the person will be responsible for implementing all intervention protocols (e. g., scheduling sessions, conducting manualized telehealth counseling sessions (Zoom), sending text messages to trial participants, entering participant tracking and progress notes into RedCap). This person will receive competency-based training and be supervised in all IRB-approved intervention and relevant trial protocols. In addition, this person will assist the investigators with all operational tasks of the project.

Required Education and Experience

Required: BA/BS in public health, psychology or similar field. Two years minimum experience as a community health educator, health counselor, or similar position.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience

*Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist

*Telehealth (e. g., phone or Zoom) health education, or counseling experience

*Manualized mental health treatment delivery

*Research experience (e. g., research assistant)

Required Skills and Abilities

*Strong oral and written communication skills

*Ability to deliver manualized health education in the context of a behavioral intervention randomized controlled trial.

*Working knowledge of RedCap

*Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with various team members.

*Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and at a high level, and attend to detail.

*Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, along with the ability to adhere to program deadlines.

*Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office/Teams and Zoom.

Essential duties

*Assist the research team with participant eligibility screening, baseline data collection, and other relevant operations of the research project.

*Conduct Zoom, telephone and text communications with participants as part of daily intervention delivery.

*Oversee intervention session scheduling for the intervention team.

*Work independently in daily maintenance of counseling session checklists and notes, and data entry into the RedCap data management system.

*Work collaboratively with intervention team in scheduling participants, supervision and intervention fidelity monitoring/quality assurance protocols.

*Attend and assist the Principal Investigator in coordinating administrative aspects of routine research team meetings and clinical supervision meetings.

*Compile intervention team data and write weekly reports of participant tracking and intervention progress to the project team, as well as annual and as-needed reports to NIH and Temple University the institutional review board (IRB).

*Provide minutes for routine intervention meetings and supervision.

*Complete project training and attend weekly supervision meetings with intervention supervisor.

*Performs other duties as assigned

*This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
