Position Overview

Cetechs is seeking qualified Pulmonary/Critical Care Physicians to provide comprehensive pulmonary and critical care services at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa.

Physicians will provide both outpatient and inpatient pulmonary services, including consultations, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, pulmonary function test interpretation, and management of patients requiring pulmonary and critical care expertise.

This is an on-site position supporting our nation's Veterans.

Schedule

• Physicians should anticipate a standard 40-hour workweek, with scheduling based on VA patient-care needs.
• Typical outpatient clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.

A typical weekly workload may include approximately

• 24 hours of clinical/patient care
• 12 hours of procedures
• 4 hours of administrative duties, meetings, and required training

The position also includes participation in inpatient consultations and Pulmonary/Critical Care on-call coverage, including evenings, weekends, and federal holidays as scheduled.

For after-hours on-call coverage, physicians must be able to respond by telephone within 15 minutes and report on-site within 60 minutes when required. The VA estimates that approximately 99% of after-hours coverage can be handled telephonically.

Responsibilities

The Pulmonary/Critical Care Physician will provide services within the scope of granted VA clinical privileges. Responsibilities may include outpatient pulmonary clinics; inpatient pulmonary and critical care consultations; electronic consultations; pulmonary function test interpretation; sleep study review/interpretation; oxygen and ventilator management; bronchoscopy and related pulmonary procedures; evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of pulmonary conditions; documentation in the VA electronic medical record; and participation in required meetings, training, quality initiatives, and patient-safety activities.

Anticipated workload is approximately 10 patients per clinic day and 15 procedures per week, subject to VA patient-care requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates must meet the following requirements:
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school

Current, full, active, and unrestricted medical license in a U. S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia

Board Certified or Board Eligible through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine

• Current BLS
• Current ACLS or equivalent
• Current DEA registration
• Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
• Ability to successfully complete VA credentialing and privileging requirements
• Current continuing medical education and training appropriate to the specialty
• Ability to meet VA health, immunization, background/security, privacy, and mandatory training requirements

Preferred Experience

Previous experience providing Pulmonary/Critical Care services in a VA, federal healthcare, hospital, or similar clinical environment is preferred. Experience performing bronchoscopy and managing complex pulmonary and critical care patients is also desirable.
