Description of Position

This position is part of the behavioral health clinical team. This position primarily serves patients within the school setting.

The School Based Therapist provides behavioral health assistance through mental health screening, assessment, intervention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment and monitoring of patient progress through individual, family, and group dynamics.

This position collaborates with school personnel, medical and behavioral health teams in treatment of patients. This position participates in school and clinic performance improvement activities.

Requirements

Essential Duties:

1. Conduct Assessments: Provide mental health screenings, interviews, and diagnostic evaluations to assess social, emotional, physical, and mental health needs.

2. Deliver Treatment: Offer brief, focused interventions and counseling to individuals, families, and groups to support behavior modification, rehabilitation, and social adjustment.

3. Consult with Stakeholders: Work with parents, teachers, and school personnel to identify causes of problems and develop effective solutions.

4. Support Families and Youth: Counsel parents on child-rearing challenges and assist youth with social adjustment difficulties.

5. Coordinate Care: Serve as a liaison between students, families, schools, courts, medical providers, and community agencies to ensure integrated care.

6. Facilitate Referrals: Arrange referrals to clinic and community resources, as well as medical and psychiatric tests to address identified needs.

7. Develop Programs: Design, organize, and lead activities and programs aimed at enhancing social development for students and staff.

8. Provide Multi-Site Support: Deliver mental health services to patients across multiple schools or district locations, as required.

9. Maintain Documentation and Communication: Ensure accurate, timely medical record documentation and provide clear written/oral communication to patients, guardians, and staff.

10. Engage in Quality Improvement: Participate in school meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and activities to enhance service effectiveness.

11. If Master's licensed, actively works towards obtaining Clinical licensure. If Clinical licensed, participates in clinical supervision as needed.

Qualifications

Possession of valid Kansas license as LMSW, LPC, LMFT, LMLP. Prefer valid license as LSCSW, LCPC, LCMFT, or LCP.

• Master's Degree in appropriate field for license type.
• Two years experience in an outpatient clinic, preferred.
• Must meet CHC/SEK credentialing and contracted payer standards to be a billable provider.

If Master's license must actively engage in working towards Clinical licensure. If Clinical licensure, participates in clinical supervision as needed.

2. Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.

3. Communicates through appropriate channels. Use proper chain of command for patient complaints.

5. Must be computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products and be able to use the Internet.

6. Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization.

7. Provide customer service in accordance to the organization’s mission.

8. Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members.

9. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent.

Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times. Operating a vehicle is a regular requirement of the position. The employee may frequently be involved in or respond to high stress environments.
