Responsibilities

Conduct daily rounds including physical examinations and clinical chart reviews of all newborns in the nursery

Diagnose and treat common neonatal conditions such as neonatal jaundice, hypoglycemia, feeding difficulties, mild respiratory distress and sepsis

• Order and interpret tests including bilirubin levels, blood glucose and Xrays
• Prescribe medications and therapeutic treatments within the designated scope of practice
• Coordinate NICU transfers and manage discharge planning
• Maintain clinical documentation
• Conduct bedside rounds with parents and provide parental education daily

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including neonatologists, obstetricians, bedside RNs and respiratory therapists

• Assist in training supervising and mentoring nursing staff, residents, and/or medical students
• Participate in quality improvement including protocol development and quality initiatives
• Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
• Regular and prompt attendance
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
• Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program Required OR

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant training program Required
• NPC - Certified Nurse Practitioner with the State of Alabama Required and
• Licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse Required or
• Physician Assistant license in the state of Alabama within 60 Days Required
• BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
• NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Required
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
