Ambulatory Clinical Social Worker: Pediatric Gastroenterology (GI) Clinics

The Children's Hospital of Richmond Gastroenterology Clinic teams are looking for a new licensed clinical social worker to join their team! Some of the most common ailments in infants, children and teenagers involve the gastrointestinal system (digestive and stomach issues). At CHoR, the clinical GI team cares for children with a wide variety of gastrointestinal and nutrition needs.

The interdisciplinary team will rely on this clinician to help mitigate barriers to care including assessment and coordinating treatment needs for mental health, safety concerns, and family systems issues.

This clinician will also help with collaborating with schools, child protective services, legal resources, and other community agencies that the patient/family interface with.

This role primarily provides complex case management support, supportive counseling for patients and families, and has the opportunity to develop support groups as necessary.

Ideal candidates would be those that enjoy working within various teams, use creativity, self-starters, solution focused, and critical thinkers.

Additionally, this team member will join a team of social workers who support various clinics throughout the Central Virginia area.

Work hours are normal business hours, Mon-Fri, major holidays off with PTO, no on call or weekend expectation. Business casual attire is expected. Additionally, the Health System follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for hand hygiene and fingernail care.

The purpose of the Clinical Social Worker 3 (MSW) position is to provide both direct patient care to patients and families and assist in the coordination of team delivered services.

The Clinical Social Worker 3 will complete a psychosocial assessment; develop treatment plans that are congruent with the overall health care plan; provide psychosocial intervention; educate patients, their family members, staff and social work students; facilitate compliance with treatment; work with the community to provide needed services; and coordinate discharge planning activities.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Virginia preferred

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: N/A

Experience REQUIRED

CSW Level 3: minimum of three (3) years of clinical social work experience with at least one (1) year in a specialty practice area

Experience PREFERRED

Clinical social work experience in an acute care setting preferred

Education/training REQUIRED

Master of Social Work Degree from a Council on Social Work Education accredited program

Education/training PREFERRED: N/A

Independent Action(s) Required

• Initiate patient/family intervention based on self-assessment of service need(s).
• Initiate community/facility referrals based on identified patient/family needs.
• Initiate consultation with facility staff regarding psychosocial patient/family needs.
• Contact the appropriate Social Services Department to report suspected abuse/neglect/exploitation cases.
• Develop intervention plans and related interventions with patients/families/significant others.
• Initiate education activities with and for facility staff.
• Contribute to quality improvement activities through self-analysis of services and needs.
• Participate in service area meetings, training, and patient care conferences.

Supervisory Responsibilities (If Applicable)

Eligible LCSW team members may provide clinical supervision to Social Work Supervisees pursuing licensure, on a voluntary basis.

Eligible MSW team members may provide field instruction to current MSW students, on a voluntary basis.

Additional Position Requirements

Depending on the unit assignment, may be required to work alternate schedules, weekends and/or holidays, and take call. May be required to work alternate unit assignments, including at other clinical locations.

Compensation Grade Ranges

Clinical Social Worker 2: $58,697.60 - $87,942.40

Clinical Social Worker 3: $62,420.80 - $96,740.80
