Chiropractor

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Family Practice Family Practice Medical Director, the Chiropractor will be responsible for assessing patients' conditions, diagnosing neuromusculoskeletal disorders, and providing treatment through manual adjustments and other therapeutic techniques to improve patients' overall health and mobility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Adjustment of a. the spinal column b. skeletal articulation and adjacent tissue, which includes diagnosis and analysis to determine the existence of spinal subluxations and associated nerve energy expression, and the use of procedures and instruments preparatory and complementary to treatment of:

a. The Spinal Column

b. skeletal articulation, and adjacent tissues b. skeletal articulation and adjacent tissue, which includes diagnosis and analysis to determine the existence of spinal subluxations and associated nerve energy expression, and the use of procedures and instruments preparatory and complementary to treatment of the spinal column, skeletal articulation, and adjacent tissues

2. Diagnosis and analysis may include physical exam, specimen analysis, drawing of blood, blood analysis, and the use of X-ray and other instruments.

3. Provides chiropractic services through the identification, location, removal, or reduction of any interference to the nervous system integrity, or nerve expression, and the resultant changes in the biomechanical and physiological homeostasis.

4. Focus on the connection between the nervous system and the spinal column.

5. Evaluate a patient’s condition based on their symptoms and medical history

6. Examine spine and posture

7. Diagnose and treat by manually re-aligning the spine and adjusting joints

8. Run tests or take x-rays

9. Use heat, cold, massage therapy and other methods to treat patients

10. Gain information from the patients about previous medical history

11. Make physical examinations

12. Take the patient’s pulse, heart rate, or blood pressure

13. Diagnose and treat disorders and ailments involving spinal column, joints and interface with nervous system, within scope of practice.

14. Provide education and advice about lifestyle, exercise and movement within scope of practice

15. Collaborate with and make referrals to doctors or other health care practitioners

16. Keep accurate, confidential patient records

17. Attend conferences, as assigned

18. Stay current with developments in Chiropractic Care

19. Reporting Adverse Incidents

20. All other duties as assigned, by the Family Practice Medical Director

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Must have good communication skills, be able to effectively communicate with diverse populations, and be willing to convey responsibilities to            patients.

2. Demonstrate the ability to work independently in carrying out assignments while remaining reliable and dependable.

3. Demonstrate professional competency in office and healthcare abilities, including the maintenance of client confidentiality.

4. Ability to demonstrate basic levels of computer literacy, with a functional understanding of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems in an office                          setting and demonstrate a working knowledge of routine office hardware and equipment (e. g. printers, copiers, fax machines, etc.).

5. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing, and operational use,       including capacities for attention to detail and for reviewing and verifying accuracy of data.

6. Possess the ability to organize and follow one’s own work schedule (i. e. setting priorities, being available during work hours, and meeting critical        deadlines).

7. Knowledge of medical terminology.

8. Demonstrate the competency and integrity to maintain the confidentiality of organizational, employee, and client records.

9. Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

Education And/or Experience

1. Doctor of Chiropractic (D. C.) degree from an accredited chiropractic college.

2. One (1) year prior experience in a healthcare setting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

1. Doctor of Chiropractic

2. Valid state license to practice chiropractic care

3. Possess a Valid California Driver’s License and be insurable with the Tule River Indian Health Center Inc. insurance agency throughout                                   employment

4. BLS certified

Preferred Qualifications and Contingencies

1. Familiar with entering data into a healthcare database program (EHR)

2. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and neuromusculoskeletal disorders within scope of practice

3. Excellent manual dexterity and physical stamina

4. Good interpersonal and communication skills

5. Ability to work independently and within a team environment

6. Mantoux TB test current

7. Have completed Hepatitis B series

8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and observe all requirements of the Federal Privacy Act and HIPAA regulations

Physical Work Environment: The description provided here is representative of those conditions in which the Chiropractor will be required to perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the Chiropractor is situated in a standard office environment within the health center. There is little or no exposure to variations in the weather or other similar elements. The Chiropractor will be stationed in the medical department of the health center. Consequently, Chiropractor must:

1.  Possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting (i. e. walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time);

2. Possess the ability to use standard office equipment to write, type, copy, fax, or perform other duties;

3. Possess the strength to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 lbs. repeatedly and up to 50 lbs. intermittently;

4. Possess the visual acuity to read printed materials and a computer screen; and

5. Demonstrate hearing and speech capabilities that allow him/her to communicate in person and over the telephone as required.

The clinical setting at TRIHCI is categorized by OSHA as a Blood-borne Pathogen Category I facility. Consequently, there exists the potential for exposure to blood, body fluid/tissue, and infectious wastes. There also exists the potential for exposure to chemicals, biologicals, toxicants, and irradiants found on-site.
