Job Description

Position Summary

Health Management Systems of America (HMSA) is seeking a Clinical Therapist – Outpatient Clinic to provide behavioral health services to individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

This position maintains clinical responsibility for the ongoing treatment of adults and/or children experiencing severe and persistent mental illness and substance use concerns. The Clinical Therapist conducts diagnostic assessments, develops individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and other appropriate individuals, formulates diagnoses within their scope of practice, and completes treatment plan updates and other required clinical documentation.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide counseling services to clients experiencing severe and persistent mental illness and substance use concerns.

Conduct diagnostic assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.

Complete progress notes, treatment plan updates, transition plans, discharge plans, and other required clinical documentation accurately and timely.

Effectively manage an assigned caseload while ensuring contractual and service requirements are met.

Participate in peer consultation, staff meetings, continuing education, and clinical supervision as applicable.

Collaborate with the clinical team to coordinate care and facilitate appropriate internal and external referrals.

  • Coordinate services with community providers, courts, social-service agencies, and other community partners.
  • Provide consultation and educational services to individuals and community groups as requested.
  • Participate in program development and other duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related behavioral/mental health field from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in the field.
  • Current State of Michigan LLMSW or LLPC license.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) training.
  • Experience utilizing trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
  • MCBAP CADC/CAADC certification or Development Plan.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State of Michigan LMSW or LPC license.
  • Three years of experience working with the substance use disorder population.
  • Two years of experience working with the criminal justice system.
  • MCBAP CADC/CAADC certification.
  • Experience working with children
