How You’ll Make an Impact

As a school-based Occupational Therapist, you’ll help students build functional skills and participate more fully in their educational environment. You will:

Understand each student’s needs. Conduct occupational therapy assessments to identify strengths, barriers to participation, and needs for related services, providing recommendations to the educational team.

Make findings meaningful. Explain evaluation results to parents, educators, and district personnel through clear, compassionate communication and practical recommendations.

Connect therapy to educational goals. Collaborate with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to develop evidence-based interventions that support functional skills, classroom participation, and access to education.

Provide individualized services. Deliver direct occupational therapy or supervise appropriately licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) in implementing therapy plans and IEP goals.

Use progress to guide decisions. Maintain accurate records, collect and analyze student data, and use findings to adjust interventions and inform ongoing service planning.

Advocate and collaborate. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team discussions to coordinate support and promote student progress.

What You’ll Bring

  • A master’s degree or higher from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • An active Occupational Therapist license issued by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (TBOTE).
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.
