Project Scope
We are seeking a Senior EHR / Practice Assessment & Physician Engagement Consultant to serve as a hands-on field assessor supporting a physician network technology and interoperability initiative across Hawaii.
This individual will independently lead practice discovery engagements, navigate complex EHR and workflow questions, and mentor junior assessors on the team. Consultants will work as integrated members of the project team and may represent the initiative with practices under approved titles and communications.
Position Summary
This is a field-forward senior consultant role built for someone who thrives working directly with independent practices — asking the right questions, earning trust quickly, and documenting what they find with precision.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on EHR assessment or implementation experience across multiple platforms, a working understanding of independent practice operations, and the credibility to handle difficult conversations with practice owners, managers, and clinical staff. Mentoring less experienced assessors is part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
Independently lead onsite and virtual practice discovery sessions across independent physician practices, IPAs, and community health organizations.
Inventory EHR platforms, versions, certification status, paper-based processes, and connectivity limitations across diverse practice environments.
Map scheduling, documentation, referral, care coordination, and data exchange workflows along with staff capacity, hardware, network, and vendor dependencies.
Handle complex EHR and workflow questions in real time — certified systems, uncertified platforms, and paper-based settings alike.
Document findings thoroughly and consistently to support synthesis and reporting by the technical program leader.
- Build rapport with practice owners, managers, and clinical staff through practical, peer-level engagement.
- Mentor and guide junior assessors on interview technique, documentation standards, and professional practice engagement.
- Escalate risks, red flags, and complex findings to senior program leadership promptly.
Qualifications
Substantial hands-on EHR assessment or implementation experience across more than one ambulatory platform.
Strong working knowledge of independent practice operations — scheduling, billing, referrals, clinical documentation, and staffing realities.
Skilled interviewer and documenter — able to extract meaningful information from busy, sometimes skeptical practice staff.
Practical troubleshooter comfortable navigating environments where systems, processes, and staff capacity vary widely.
Willingness and availability to work onsite at practices and travel inter-island as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationships with Hawaii-based physician practices, IPAs, or community health organizations.
- Experience in rural or community health settings, including FQHCs or critical access environments.
- Familiarity with health information exchange concepts and interoperability considerations.
- Prior experience mentoring or supervising field assessment teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Field-tested senior assessor who can walk into any practice environment and get to the truth of how things actually work.
- Builds trust with physicians and staff through competence and respect, not authority or pressure.
- Hawaii-based candidates or those with deep, verifiable Hawaii practice experience are strongly preferred.
- Detail-oriented documentarian who produces findings others can synthesize and act on.
- Comfortable working independently in the field while staying tightly coordinated with the broader team.
