Wave Dental Specialists Detroit is seeking an experienced, motivated, and dependable Oral Surgery Dental Assistant to join our growing multispecialty practice in Dearborn Heights, Michigan!

This position will primarily support our oral surgeon, assisting with surgical procedures, patient care, and daily clinical operations. We're looking for someone who is confident in oral surgery, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team.

As a multispecialty practice, we also offer the opportunity to gain exposure to other dental specialties. While your primary focus will be oral surgery, a willingness to cross-train and assist in other departments would be a huge plus!

Work Schedule

Full-Time | Approximately 40 Hours per Week

Alternating Saturdays are required from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. When scheduled to work a Saturday, you will receive a day off during the workweek.

Responsibilities

Provide chairside assistance to our oral surgeon during surgical procedures, including extractions, implant placement, and other oral surgery treatments.

• Prepare surgical treatment rooms, instruments, and equipment.
• Assist with IV sedation procedures and patient monitoring as permitted by applicable certifications and training.
• Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, and other relevant clinical information.
• Take diagnostic dental X-rays and assist with imaging as needed.
• Educate patients on preoperative and postoperative instructions.
• Maintain proper sterilization, infection control, and surgical aseptic protocols.
• Accurately document patient care and procedures using Open Dental.
• Manage surgical instruments, supplies, and inventory.
• Collaborate with our oral surgeon and clinical team to ensure efficient scheduling and an exceptional patient experience.
• Assist with other dental specialties as needed, based on training and availability.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of dental assisting experience in oral surgery required.
• DAANCE certification preferred.
• IV sedation certification or applicable sedation training strongly preferred.
• Experience assisting with surgical extractions, dental implants, and sedation procedures.
• Confidence in taking dental X-rays.
• Familiarity with surgical instruments, sterile technique, and infection control protocols.
• Experience with Open Dental is a plus!
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs.
• Excellent communication and patient care skills.
• Ability to remain calm, organized, and efficient in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Willingness to assist with other dental specialties is a plus.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset.

Requirements

• Education and Training
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one-year related experience and/or training or the equivalent of a combination of education and experience in the dental profession.
• Valid X-ray certificate.
• Current license if CDA, RDA, or EFDA (per state requirements).
• CPR & first aid certificate.
• FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
• Reports to: Operations Manager
