Job Description

Augusta Pediatrics is seeking an experienced, autonomous Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide outpatient behavioral health services within a busy pediatric primary care practice. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with pediatric providers to improve access to mental health care for children and adolescents in the community.

Position Highlights

  • Full-time, outpatient-only practice
  • Practice Hours: Monday-Thursday 8am - 8pm, Friday 8am – 4:30 pm, Saturday 8am – 2pm, Sunday 8am – 12noon
  • Schedule: Four 10-hour days, Monday–Friday, with some Saturday hours
  • No inpatient responsibilities
  • Integrated behavioral health model within a pediatric primary care setting
  • Collaborative team of pediatricians, nurses, and support staff
  • Focus on children, adolescents, and young adults

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for pediatric and adolescent patients.

Diagnose and manage a wide range of behavioral health conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral disorders, mood disorders, and other psychiatric conditions.

Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based medication management and therapeutic interventions.

Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications in accordance with Virginia regulations and clinical best practices.

Provide ongoing follow-up care to assess treatment effectiveness, symptom improvement, and medication management.

Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and available community resources.

Collaborate closely with pediatricians and care team members to support integrated, patient-centered care.

Coordinate referrals to counseling, psychology, psychiatry, developmental services, and other specialty resources as appropriate.

  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive, team-based practice culture.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licensure.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.

Minimum of 2–3 years of psychiatric practice experience preferred, with experience treating pediatric and adolescent populations strongly preferred.

Ability to practice independently and manage an outpatient behavioral health patient panel.

Compensation

  • Tiered base salary plus a productivity (wRVU)-based incentive model.
  • Base salary is determined by years of APP experience:
  • 0–5 years of experience: $105,000 base salary
  • More than 5 years up to 10 years of experience: $115,000 base salary
  • More than 10 years of experience: $125,000 base salary

Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
