Glenmont Job Corps Center is looking for a compassionate and motivated TEAP Counselor to join our student support team. TEAP stands for Trainee Employee Assistance Program.

As our TEAP Counselor, you'll provide substance-use education, prevention, early intervention, counseling, and support to young adults working toward their education and career goals. This isn't simply about telling students what they shouldn't do.

It's about helping them understand their choices, recognize patterns, develop healthier coping skills, connect with appropriate resources, and make decisions that support the future they're working toward. Think of this role as part counselor, part educator, part mentor, and part student advocate.

What Does a TEAP Counselor Do? Students come to Job Corps with different backgrounds, experiences, challenges, and goals. Sometimes substance use or other personal challenges can become barriers to their success. That's where you come in.

As the TEAP Counselor, you'll work with students to identify concerns early, provide appropriate support and education, and help them develop strategies that allow them to stay focused on their goals.

Your work can play an important role in helping a student move from: "I'm struggling." to "I have a plan, support, and tools to move forward."

What You'll Do Screen & Assess Student Needs You'll meet with students to better understand their individual circumstances and determine what level of support may be appropriate.

This may include: Conducting substance-use screenings Completing assessments and intakes Identifying potential risk factors or concerns Determining appropriate interventions Referring students for additional services when needed Provide Individual & Group Support You'll provide counseling and guidance focused on substance-use prevention, education, early intervention, healthy decision-making, and student success.

Depending on student needs, you may work individually with a student or facilitate group sessions.

You'll help students explore topics such as: Healthy coping strategies Understanding triggers and behaviors Communication and decision-making Goal setting Personal wellness Substance-use prevention Building healthier habits Staying focused on education and career goals Make Education Engaging Not every conversation has to feel like a lecture.

You'll have opportunities to lead workshops, groups, educational sessions, and classroom-style presentations that help students better understand substance use, wellness, prevention, and healthy choices.

We're looking for someone who can take important information and make it relatable, understandable, and meaningful to young adults. Create Individualized Support Plans Every student's situation is different. You'll help develop individualized plans based on each student's needs, challenges, and goals.

You'll: Establish appropriate goals with students Monitor their progress Document interventions and services Follow up regularly Adjust support when needed Connect students with additional resources Collaborate with other professionals involved in the student's success The goal is not simply to identify a problem.

It's to help the student develop a realistic path forward. You'll Be Part of a Student Support Team You won't be doing this work alone. You'll collaborate with Health & Wellness staff, Counseling, Residential Living, Center leadership, and other departments to make sure students receive coordinated support.

When additional services are needed, you'll help connect students with appropriate on-Center or community resources. Strong communication and teamwork are important because student success often requires multiple departments working together.

Help Maintain a Safe & Drug-Free Environment The TEAP Counselor also plays an important role in supporting Job Corps' drug-free environment.

Depending on program requirements, responsibilities may include: Supporting the Center's drug-testing program Monitoring required follow-up Providing prevention and intervention services Educating students about program expectations Maintaining appropriate documentation Helping students understand the connection between healthy choices and their education, employment, and future You'll balance support with accountability, helping students understand both the expectations of the program and the resources available to help them succeed.

Confidentiality & Documentation Matter Because you'll be working with sensitive student information, professionalism and confidentiality are essential.

You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with applicable privacy requirements, including HIPAA where applicable, as well as Job Corps and Center procedures.

That may include: Case notes Assessments Progress documentation Referrals and follow-up Individualized support plans Required program documentation We're looking for someone who understands that good counseling and good documentation go hand in hand. Who Would Be Great in This Role?

Qualifications

Active, unrestricted substance abuse license or certification that meets minimum state licensing or certification requirements to practice in the state where the center is located. A degree from an accredited school preferred. A minimum of one-year experience in drug/alcohol counseling or related field preferred.
