Job Description Summary

The Community Health Project Coordinator will work with community engagement and health research projects across various Kansas counties. This is a full-time position through The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.

The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Community Health Worker Project leadership to assist coordinating all activities of the Thrive project; they provide administrative and project planning, setup, maintenance, and close-out support to the project leaders. The project coordinator will co-lead the planning, development, and implementation of CHW trainings including Core Competency and Medical Interpreter trainings.

About REACH KS

The Reach project connects rural communities with digital mental health services.

The project currently offers Kansas rural residents with the Thrive program which is an evidence-based digital platform that delivers personalized cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) via computer, tablet, or smartphone to address mental health care barriers in rural Kansas.

Thrive has demonstrated effectiveness comparable to clinician-guided therapy, with strong acceptability and improved outcomes in rural populations. When paired with trusted community health workers (CHWs), these tools become even more effective.

CHWs can bridge the critical gap between primary-care recommendations of digital interventions and their successful use at home—offering technical support, encouragement for sustained engagement, and assistance in overcoming barriers.

Together, digital therapeutics and CHW support can form the backbone of a more accessible, responsive rural mental health system.
