Job Description Summary

The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a full-time (12-month) faculty member to join our team in the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT) with primary teaching responsibilities focused on physical therapy students enrolled in the hybrid pathway of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. This program expansion was approved by Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) in November 2024 and the first cohort of students will graduate in May 2028.

This newly created faculty position is designated as a non-tenure track position at the Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will have experience in online/hybrid instruction in a physical therapy program. This position includes teaching cardiopulmonary course content and assisting with full-time clinical education courses in the DPT curriculum. The anticipated start date is Summer 2027.

About the Department

The Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT) is one of the largest departments in the School of Health Professions and is a part of the University of Kansas Medical Center.

The department has programs at the 39th and Rainbow campus in Kansas City, Kansas, and at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb within the Kansas City metro.

The PTRSAT department houses a nationally recognized Doctor of Physical Therapy program (ranked #16 nationwide, and #9 for DPT programs at public institutions), a growing Master of Science in Athletic Training program, and a well-established PhD in Rehabilitation Science program.

The PT program supports JaySTART, an interdisciplinary student-run pro bono clinic to meet the needs of underserved patients in our community. The environment at KU Medical Center provides excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary and interprofessional education and research collaborations.

The PTRSAT department provides strong departmental support and infrastructure, including teaching and research mentorship, along with a supportive and collegial work environment.

PTRSAT Department faculty are at the forefront of advancing knowledge in rehabilitation and lifestyle interventions, motor control and mobility, and health professions education.

The hybrid pathway will provide exciting research opportunities within the department’s LEARN Lab, a collaborative group focused on advancing research in health professions education.
