Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Temporary Position)

• Work location: In person days would be at any of the following clinics: Beaverton, Milwaukie, Portland
• Work schedule: Flexible days (Monday-Friday, Strong preference for afternoon/evening hours)

Salary: (Non-bilingual) $81.20/hr. - $90.46/hr.

(Bilingual Spanish) $88.51/hr. - $98.60/hr.

Position Summary

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric consultation and ongoing psychiatric treatment for the promotion of optimal mental health prevention and treatment of Psychiatric disorders for Morrison clients, as part of an interdisciplinary health care team. This position supports and enforces agency policies and procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and effective client care.

Duties and Responsibilities

PMHP agrees to perform all reasonable duties within the scope of practice for a licensed PMHNP in the State of Oregon in accordance with the State’s laws, rules and regulations.

Adhere to accepted medical standards in accordance with applicable federal, state and local statutes, rulings, regulations and requirements and the prevailing community standard of care in the Portland Metropolitan Services area.

Adhere to the credentialing and quality criteria that are adopted by Morrison.

Provide services in a manner that maintains appropriate professional boundaries with client, caregivers, and staff

• Provides psychiatric consultation and ongoing psychiatric treatment for clients.
• Respond to requests for consultation to primary care providers in the community.

Provide a high level of customer service to clients, families, staff and outside professionals in a service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving.

• Fully utilize Morrison’s HER and follow all documentation, billing, and review/approval procedures.
• Meet established productivity standards.

Collaborate with Clinic Managers, Clinic Supervisors, Program Managers, Division Directors and Medical Director in taking overall clinical responsibility for monitoring medical necessity and the clinical appropriateness of care.

Review and approve annual treatment plans.

Utilize CPT coding in the provision of direct psychiatric services in accordance with Morrison billing guidelines.

Prescribe clinically appropriate medications and conduct regular assessments of the therapeutic responses and side effects of medications to clients.

Provide ongoing education to clients, family members, and team members on psychiatric illnesses and medications.

Collaborate with and engage clinical teams to ensure quality service delivery to all children and families, providing support and consultation. Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Psychiatric NPs, Mental Health Therapists, Nurses, Skills Trainers, and other direct, support and office workers.

• Participate in clinic coverage schedules.
• Provide urgent psychiatric services as requested.

Provide ongoing training, learning, and development opportunities to staff on a regular basis, as requested. Prepare for and attend meetings, case reviews, compliance and utilization reviews, and quality improvement activities as needed/scheduled.

Adhere to and administer Agency and Psychiatric Services policies and procedures.

Is aware of Morrison Compliance Program including Compliance Officer, Compliance Standards of Conduct, and Employee Compliance Hotline. Understands Compliance Standards of Conduct and signs attestation document. Completes all assigned compliance, HIPAA, client privacy, and fraud, waste, and abuse training. Knows how to report any client privacy or fraud, waste, or abuse concerns.

Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.

Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare organization.

Competencies

• Psychopharmacology: Knowledge of evidence-based medication management with children and adolescents
• Trauma-informed Care: Approach cases with a collaborative, trauma-informed perspective

Developmental and Systemic Insight: Understand neuroscientific principles alongside a child’s family dynamics, school environment, and background

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Communicate effectively and professionally with caregivers, treatment team providers, school personnel, and others involved in the child’s care.

Crisis management: Demonstrate the ability to recognize, assess, and intervene effectively when presented with clients who are having a mental health crisis. This includes the ability to complete a suicide risk screening and/or assessment and make appropriate referrals for higher levels of care.

Required Position Qualifications

Current Oregon license as PMHNP or APRN with psychiatric certification. National Board Certification to include children and family is preferred.

Must have a valid DEA registration.

Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience independently prescribing psychiatric medication to children and adolescents

Preferred Position Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish, both written and spoken. Must clear a language proficiency test for Spanish.

• Experience working in non-profit and/or community mental health settings
• Ability to complete documentation in an electronic health record

Other Requirements

• Able to pass a comprehensive criminal history background investigation
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing

Must not have any adverse findings from standard inquiries with the Office of the Inspector General, Medical Exclusion Provider List, National Practitioner Data Bank.

Ability to pass a DMV records check

PMHNP shall fulfill and maintain necessary Continuing Medical Education credits as required by state and federal regulatory agencies, licensing boards, or malpractice carriers.

May require evening work or hours in excess of routine schedule in order to ensure optimal program operations and service delivery.

May travel and perform duties at different agency locations with possible meetings/presentations at other Morrison designated worksites and in the community.

Must pass language testing if applicable.

For positions that require driving

• Must hold valid driver’s license— Oregon or Washington within 30 days of hire
• Must pass a motor vehicle records check.

Working Conditions

Environment: Work is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.

Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management.

Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
