POSITION OVERVIEW: Title: Dentist Reports To: Dental Director Schedule: M-F; 8am-5pm Status: Exempt Summary: The Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to Tribal members and eligible patients at TMWIHC. Reporting to the Dental Director, this position performs diagnostic, preventive, restorative, and minor surgical dental procedures in a patient-centered, culturally sensitive environment consistent with the highest standards of dental practice. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Will include but not limited to) Perform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning. Provide preventive, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontic, and minor oral surgical procedures. Document all patient care accurately and completely in the electronic dental record. Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and treatment options. Collaborate with the dental team, hygienists, and dental assistants to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care. Maintain compliance with infection control standards, OSHA regulations, and HIPAA requirements. Participate in quality improvement activities, peer review, and continuing education. Provide culturally sensitive care and build trusting relationships with patients and the community. Supervise dental assistants as appropriate and support a positive team environment. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school required. Current, unrestricted California dental license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Indian Health Service (IHS), or tribal health setting. Experience serving Native American or underserved populations.
Requirements
Current DEA registration. CPR/BLS certification. Valid California Driver’s License. Must comply with all credentialing and background screening requirements. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods; climbing stairs and step-stools; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching; pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 30 pounds; and raising objects overhead.
The role also requires manual dexterity for operating computers and phones, as well as hearing, talking, and strong verbal and written communication skills. Repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers are involved. The employee may be subject to outdoor environmental conditions such as heat and cold, and will be required to walk on uneven ground.
The position also requires the ability to safely operate and drive a motor vehicle.
