Job Summary

Responsible for the administration of a designated number of patient care units, services or programs within a product line. Utilizes clinical and managerial expertise to develop, implement and evaluate effective patient care delivery systems for assigned units or services. Accountable for the delivery of quality patient care services, customer satisfaction (including patients, physicians, and employees) and financial results within areas of responsibility. The position encompasses, but is not limited to, area-specific and departmental-wide administration (with system alignment as appropriate) management, collaboration, education and research. Performs a variety of nursing leadership activities within and outside of Prisma Health.

Ensures the quality of patient care within areas of responsibility. Facilitates the development and deployment of policy, practices and programs that support safety, quality and service (patient and employee satisfaction).

Facilitates, reviews, and approves the budget for the assigned departments, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs. Assures that hospital resources, specific to productivity/efficiency are optimally utilized through participating in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, negotiation and review of contracted services, and development of practices that achieve specific objectives, and resolution of unfavorable performance variances. Provides leadership and implements strategies to provide cost effective quality care.

Coordinates, develops, implements and assures compliance to system wide and departmental specific policies and procedures, performance standards, practice standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements and stellar service standards.

Collaborates with department staff to determine the qualifications and competence of department/service personnel who provide care and services. Creates an atmosphere to empower personnel where each individual is free to function at the highest possible level within the established lines of authority, providing assistance when needed. Educates and develops capabilities of individual teams to promote quality care.

Assists in development of clinical service strategies within the context of the Prisma Health mission, vision and values.

Ensures that interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained and ongoing in the monitoring and evaluation processes, patient care and outcomes. Follows up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborates in maintaining departments/services on a customer-focused level of excellence.

Performs a variety of human resource management functions including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling of assigned management and support staff. Provides coaching, mentoring, support and consultation to managers, colleagues and staff. Fosters an empowered workforce through role clarification, delegation of responsibility, and accountability.

Identifies patient and family needs of the populations served. Recommends and/or develops new programs and services to meet those needs. Assures that age specific equipment, supplies and educational resources are available for assigned units/services. ​

  • Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

Education - Master's degree in related field of study. MSN preferred.

Experience - Five (5) years nursing experience including progressive clinical management experience. Academic medical center, large hospital system, and/or clinical experience preferred. Director level experience preferred

In Lieu Of

In lieu of the master's degree requirement above, a BSN or bachelor’s degree may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreeing to enroll in an accredited applicable master's degree program within one year and obtain the master's degree within two (2) years.

  • In lieu of bachelor's degree or master's degree requirements, may accept DNP or PhD in Nursing.
  • Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

Holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.

  • Certification in area of nursing specialty - Preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledgeable of and adheres to Age-Appropriate Standards of Care for the patient population(s) served by assigned units and services.

Ability to maintains professional growth and development through formal education, seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in fields of expertise.
