Job Description

Job Details:

Job Location: Oldwick, NJ - Oldwick, NJ, Salary Range: $1.00 - $85000.00Salary/year, B.W. Furlong and Associates is seeking a highly motivated and experienced veterinarian to join our team in an emergency focused role, providing emergency ambulatory services for Hunterdon County and the surrounding areas.

Our goal is to provide exceptional, rapid-response emergency and critical care to the local equine community, promoting superior outcomes for horses in need. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and excellent communication abilities, with both clients and referring veterinarians.

This will be a full-time position, with 2 extended hours shifts per week (4pm to 8am), and 1-2 weekends per month. Emergency coverage will be shared with our pool of ambulatory associates. Who are we?

B.W. Furlong & Associates was founded in 1982 by Dr. Brendan Furlong, and has steadily grown from a one man operation to a practice of 22 veterinarians and over 60 support staff and technicians.

The practice includes a veterinary hospital, imaging center, surgery center, and rehab center in Oldwick, NJ, an imaging center and office in Wellington, FL, and ambulatory services offered in Oldwick, NJ, Ocala, FL, Wellington, FL, and in other seasonal locations.

In 2027, we will move all of our New Jersey operations into over 50,000 square feet of brand new hospital construction just a few miles down the road.

We pride ourselves on being progressive leaders who deliver the ultimate in veterinary care; among our 22 veterinarians, we currently have 5 specialists: two internists, two theriogenologists, and one surgeon.

Members of our veterinary team have also supported US and Canadian Olympic, Paralympic, World Championship, and Pan American competitors for generations.

We invest in our organization and people, in the forms of continuing education, investments in technology and resources, and the creation of new positions as demands and needs change.

We are committed to providing world class care, we practice a collaborative brand of medicine, we believe in supporting our colleagues, and we always try to do what is right. These are our core values, and they should resonate with all applicants. Where are we?

New Jersey is the east coast’s best kept secret, with our headquarters located in the idyllic countryside of Hunterdon County. The area offers easy access to New York City, Philadelphia, and the Jersey Shore along with hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and riding trails and endless outdoor activities.

Most staff live within a 30 minute drive of the practice and are able to commute without taking major highways. For those raising a family, there are a number of award winning school systems in the area.

Qualifications

What will you be doing? B.W. Furlong & Associates is looking to enhance our ambulatory emergency veterinary care services within Hunterdon county and beyond to better service surrounding areas. This opportunity is based out of our New Jersey hospital located in Oldwick, NJ.

Our horse population is primarily sport horses, and our practice has an established reputation for excellence in sports medicine, lameness, and rehabilitation. The ideal practitioner’s clinical interests would align with one or more of these fields, to supplement their ambulatory services.

We will soon be working in a brand new facility, tentatively opening January 2027.

This new hospital will include 30+ stalls, two surgery suites with two recovery boxes, Hallmarq standing MRI, Qalibra CT, nuclear scintigraphy, a reproduction lab with dedicated treatment space, a 3-stall isolation building, a covered arena for lameness evaluations, and a 9-stall rehabilitation facility.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills to help foster relationships with and be the primary contact for equine owners and referring veterinarians.

The practitioner will be conducting physical examinations, diagnostics, and treatments in an ambulatory setting for a wide range of emergency conditions, including colic, lameness, lacerations, and dystocia.

Candidates must also have (or obtain prior to being hired) a valid US state driver's license and a clean driving record.

Our compensation package includes: a highly competitive salary, commensurate with experience; health and welfare benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance; a student loan repayment program; 401k with 3% employer contribution; profit sharing; generous Continuing Education allowance and paid time off; employee assistance program; long term disability insurance; license and association membership fees; AAA membership; mileage reimbursement or company vehicle; logo wear, and discounted veterinary products and services.
