ChristianaCare is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join our Women's Health team as a full-time Nocturnist Triage Laborist at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. This inpatient-based position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care across the continuum of obstetric services while working alongside physicians, residents, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, and learners in one of the region's leading healthcare systems.

As a key member of our OBGYN team, you will provide expert midwifery care during the antepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum periods, while helping ensure high-quality, patient-centered outcomes.

Responsibilities

The CNM Nocturnist Triage Laborist will:

Evaluate, diagnose, and manage obstetric and gynecologic patients presenting to Labor & Delivery and OB/GYN triage

  • Independently manage normal labor and birth
  • Monitor maternal and fetal well-being and adjust care plans as needed
  • Perform vaginal deliveries and provide immediate maternal and newborn care
  • Obtain histories, perform physical examinations, and develop treatment plans

Order, interpret, and act on laboratory studies, diagnostic testing, fetal monitoring, and other clinical assessments

Recognize high-risk or emergent situations and collaborate with or escalate care to obstetric physicians when appropriate

Coordinate admissions, consultations, transfers, discharges, and transitions of care

Educate and counsel patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and family planning

Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing staff, anesthesia, neonatology, and other healthcare professionals

  • Support the education and development of residents, students, and members of the healthcare team
  • Procedures May Include
  • Vaginal delivery
  • Artificial rupture of membranes (AROM)
  • Foley bulb placement for induction
  • Repair of first- and second-degree lacerations
  • Bedside ultrasound
  • Fetal scalp electrode and intrauterine pressure catheter placement
  • Contraceptive device insertion and removal
  • Biopsies and other gynecologic procedures consistent with credentialing and scope of practice

Education & Experience

  • Graduate degree from an accredited nurse-midwifery or midwifery education program
  • Completion of an accredited Certified Nurse-Midwife/Midwifery Program
  • Advanced knowledge of obstetrics, gynecology, and labor and delivery management
  • Board-certified or board-eligible Certified Nurse Midwife
  • Eligible for active staff status within the ChristianaCare OB/GYN Department

Licensure & Certifications

  • Delaware licensure or eligibility for licensure
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
  • BLS certification required
  • OBIS training for electronic fetal monitoring required
  • OB/GYN ultrasound competency required
  • ACLS and NRP preferred

Annual Compensation Range $121,980.00 - $151,988.00

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a graduate degree from an accredited nurse-midwifery program and possess active Certified Nurse-Midwife certification. Proficiency in labor management, electronic fetal monitoring, and OB/GYN ultrasound is required, along with current BLS certification.
