Job Description

Coverage Summary

The position requires coverage for obstetric and gynecological patients within the facility, including the assessment and management of antepartum patients, labor and delivery oversight, gynecological ED consultations, emergency gynecological surgeries, and daily rounding. Additionally, backup call for OBHG will be part of the responsibility.

Coverage Requirements

Weeknight Call

Monday to Thursday, 5 PM to 7 AM

Weekend Call

Friday at 5 PM through Monday at 7 AM

Duration

A total of 3 weeks, encompassing both weeknight and weekend call coverage.

Clinical Setting

  • Inpatient, Level III Trauma Center with NICU.

Required Procedures/Job Duties

1.

Obstetrics

  • Management of low-risk patients, including those with pre-existing conditions (e. g., history of twins, toxemia, hyperemesis).
  • Care for high-risk pregnancies involving conditions such as toxemia, diabetes, advanced cardiac issues, and chronic respiratory or renal diseases.
  • Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) interpretation, including NST, CST, and FSE.

Labor & Delivery

  • Routine vaginal and assisted deliveries, decision-making for Cesarean sections.
  • Management of complicated deliveries (e. g., breech, multiple gestations, abruptions).
  • VBACs and repair of 3rd and 4th degree lacerations.

3.

Gynecology

  • Major surgical procedures, including but not limited to ectopic pregnancy management, oophorectomy, cystectomy, and extensive laparoscopic procedures.
  • Competence in suction D&C and management of cesarean complications, including hysterectomy.

Worksite Resources

  • Onsite lab and ultrasound services.
  • EMR platform: EPIC.
  • Fully staffed facility with labor and delivery RNs and an Obstetric Emergency Department

Justification for Coverage

The need arises to cover three UCHealth physicians for primary call duties.

Deal Breakers

Providers must fulfill the entire coverage duration; early departures are not acceptable.

EMR Training Requirement

Completion of EMR training prior to the first day of work is mandatory, with no opportunity to test out.

Shift Information

Night Call

5 PM - 7 AM (Monday to Thursday)

3 weekends (Friday 5 PM - Monday 7 AM)

Qualifications

  • Board Certified in OB/GYN (Mandatory)
  • Active Colorado license or IMLC with Letter of Qualification (Mandatory)
  • Active certifications in ACLS, BLS, NRP (Highly preferred)
  • DEA registration (Highly preferred; a transferred DEA is acceptable as long as it is maintained through the assignment duration).

Availability Requirements

  • Candidates must specify their availability from January 2027 to April 2027 at the time of submission.
  • Candidates must indicate the number of shifts they can provide monthly.
  • Candidates must acknowledge understanding and willingness to comply with EMR training requirements to avoid delays in start date.

Geographic Preference

  • Local/drive-in candidates are highly preferred.

Training and Background

  • Completion of an OB/GYN residency (Required).
  • Ability to perform all required procedures in obstetrics, labor and delivery, and gynecology.
  • Clean malpractice history and background check (Required).
  • Submission of a Self-Query NPDB, obtained within the last month, at the time of presentation (Required).

License Requirements

  • Active Colorado license.

Key Responsibilities

The physician will provide obstetric and gynecological coverage, including labor and delivery oversight, emergency surgeries, and inpatient rounding. Responsibilities also include managing high-risk pregnancies and performing gynecological consultations within a Level III Trauma Center.

Requirements

Candidates must be Board Certified in OB/GYN with an active Colorado license and completion of an OB/GYN residency. Proficiency in obstetric and gynecological procedures is required, along with mandatory EMR training and current ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications.
