  • Location: 200 Myrtle Street, New Britain, CT 06053
  • Shift: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm
  • Pay: $24.00/hr (paid weekly)

Are you passionate about helping students build independence and transition into adulthood and the workforce? If so, join our team as a School to Work Counselor and play a meaningful role in supporting students of all abilities as they develop confidence, life skills, and job readiness.

  • Represent CW's mission and values through compassionate, professional, and student-centered support.
  • Coordinate and deliver transition services by facilitating intakes, developing individualized service plans, and identifying meaningful opportunities aligned with each student's goals.
  • Provide engaging life skills instruction, orientation, and job training that prepares students for workplace expectations and community involvement.
  • Monitor student progress, address challenges, and provide consistent encouragement to foster independence and confidence.
  • Partner with employers and internal teams to connect students with community-based work experiences.
  • Collaborate with families, school personnel, and agency partners to ensure a supportive, well-rounded approach to student success.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including service records, progress reports, and billing information.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing ideas, participating in training, and continuously improving service delivery.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in education, human services, rehabilitation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities—ideally youth or young adults transitioning to adult services.
  • Knowledge of vocational training, job coaching, and employment support services, along with basic data tracking and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and a valid driver's license.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid Real ID.

  • Familiarity with IDEA, Section 504, and person-centered transition planning practices.
  • An understanding of local workforce trends and community resources that support youth employment.

Physical & Environmental Demand

  • Office Environment: This position is primarily based in a professional office setting. The incumbent is expected to work full-time on-site, performing duties at a desk and utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, and other technology tools. The environment is climate-controlled with moderate noise levels typical of office operations.
  • Community-Based Setting: In addition to office work, the role involves regular visits to schools, businesses, and community sites. These environments may vary in accessibility, noise level, and climate control. The specialist must be comfortable working in both structured and informal settings, including classrooms, job sites, and public venues.
  • Extended Hours: The position may occasionally require work outside of standard business hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, to accommodate student schedules, attend meetings, respond to urgent matters, or participate in events and conferences.
  • Manul Dexterity: Frequent and sustained use of hands and fingers is required to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment.

The role involves repetitive motion and fine motor skills for data entry, document preparation, and written communication.

  • Visual and Hearing Acuity: Must possess sufficient visual acuity to read detailed documents, analyze spreadsheets, review dashboards, and interpret data on screens or in printed form. Adequate hearing is necessary to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings, whether in person, by phone, or via virtual platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
  • Mobility and Physical Activity: The position involves occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting or moving items up to 20 pounds, such as program materials, documents, or presentation equipment. Regular movement between departments, meeting rooms, and external partner sites is required.

The role may also involve accompanying students during job shadowing or volunteer placements, which may require walking or standing for extended periods.

  • Driving and Transportation: The role includes frequent local travel to schools, businesses, and service sites, and may involve transporting materials or attending off-site meetings. Occasional out-of-state travel and overnight stays may be required for conferences, training, or program support.
  • Interpersonal Interaction: The role requires frequent face-to-face interaction with students, families, educators, and community partners. The specialist must be comfortable engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds and adapting communication styles to meet varying needs.
