Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors of Mount Carmel Health System, the Research Nurse is responsible for the implementation, coordination, and management of oncology clinical research projects across the organization. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality care to research participants enrolled in clinical trials while maintaining compliance with federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, and Mount Carmel Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies and procedures. The Research Nurse serves as a liaison between Mount Carmel and external organizations involved in research activities, fostering effective collaboration and communication. Additionally, the role develops, coordinates, and leads oncology research initiatives that support and maintain Mount Carmel Oncology Service Line accreditation requirements. Position Purpose: The Research Nurse - Oncology is responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing oncology clinical research activities across Mount Carmel Health System to advance evidence-based patient care and support organizational research objectives. This role ensures the safe and ethical conduct of clinical trials by providing comprehensive care coordination for research participants, maintaining compliance with federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards, sponsor requirements, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies. Serving as a key liaison among patients, physicians, sponsors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders, the Research Nurse facilitates patient enrollment, protocol implementation, data management, regulatory compliance, and study oversight. Additionally, this position supports the development and growth of oncology research programs, promotes quality outcomes, and helps maintain accreditation standards for the Mount Carmel Oncology Service Line. What You Will Do: Essential Responsibilities Responsible for coordination of education of all stakeholders for new clinical trials/treatments as appropriate. Responsible for screening and patient enrollment into appropriate clinical trials. Provides care management and coordination of patient's care to ensure compliance to protocol requirements. Provides care coordination between the physician, Mount Carmel, and the appropriate study sponsor. Provides direct patient care in the outpatient setting; completes appropriate patient assessments in the inpatient setting as required by the protocol. Manages all elements of data collection and submission, including query resolution according to the federal/sponsor requirements. Responsible for all elements of written and verbal correspondence relating to assigned clinical trials. Prepares, submits and maintains regulatory/IRB and study files as required by the sponsor, regulatory agencies, or the organization. Compiles information and data summaries in appropriate format and submits as requested. Serves as liaison/resource for all internal and external stakeholders involved in a research trial. Acts as patient advocate in managing clinical trials. Promotes a Culture of Safety by adhering to policy, procedures, and plans that are in place to prevent workplace injury, violence, or adverse outcomes to associates and patients. Other Job Responsibilities Responsible and accountable for the planning and development, including post-hospital follow-up plans, of all assigned research projects. Assists the physician in obtaining informed consent. Participates actively in the treatment phase of the protocol by providing care coordination Coordinates the availability, storage and administration of the investigational drugs in collaboration with the sponsor and documents to meet all regulatory, hospital, FDA and manufacturer's regulations. Assists in quality assurance/audit activities as assigned and reports outcomes to management Assists in orientation of new research nurses and others involved in data collection and treatment. Provides cross coverage for other research nurses as assigned. Attends IRB and other committee meetings as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Licensure/Certification: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Ohio. CITI research ethics training required (on-site training provided) Experience: Minimum of five years of oncology clinical nursing experience; demonstrated experience in the clinical research setting preferred. Effective communication skills, knowledge of research regulatory and data management requirements, ability to work independently, and strong time management skills.
