Hygienist 

Reports to: Dentist / Operations Leader

FLSA Status: Non - Exempt (Hourly)

Department: Operations

Employment Status: At-Will

Incentive Eligibility: Eligible

Job Summary

The Hygienist is responsible for cleaning patients’ teeth and examining oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. Educating patients on oral hygiene, take and develop x-rays, and apply fluoride or sealants. Performing quality and effective hygiene procedures while building and maintaining positive and professional relationships with patients. The Hygienist is responsible for the patient's excellent experience and contributes to the overall financial success of the practice.

The tasks and responsibilities of a Hygienist include but are but not limited to

* Provide superior patient care and service. Exhibit outstanding service and hospitality.
* Record and review patient medical histories.
* Examine gums, wing probes to locate periodontally recessed gingiva, periodontal pockets and signs of gum disease. Palpate and visually examine gums for signs of disease.
* Palpate lymph nodes in and around the neck to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.
* Educate our patients on the importance of preventing, diagnosing, and treating periodontal disease. Discuss the links between periodontal conditions and systemic illness.
* Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums using dental instruments. Apply fluorides or other cavity-preventing agents staving off dental decay.
* Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
* Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments.
* Expose and develop x-ray film.
* Provide clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients or the general public.
* Practice to the standard of care of the State Board of Dentistry. Follow rules and regulations of the Dental Practice Act of the applicable state.
* Comply with state and federal laws for chart documentation.
* Follow OSHA guidelines on PPE and use standard precautions.
* Proactive in leading and supporting the Marquee Dental Culture by maintaining a positive, friendly, and supportive disposition.
* Other duties as assigned.
