Job Description

Dental Hygienist

Location: Stronghurst, IL 61480

Scope of Work Responsibilities

* Work under the supervision of the dentist.

* Assist in exposure, processing, and mounting of dental radiographs and maintain patient radiographs as part of the dental record.

* Ensure sufficient materials are available; inform the dental assistant of material shortages and the necessity of reorder.

* Prepare materials or medicaments for use by the dentist or themselves and deliver them as required in the treatment of patients.

* Discuss and update patient health history before beginning appointments.

* Scan necessary chart information into dental charts of patients.

* Prepare charts 48 hours in advance for the next day's appointments.

* Function as a dental assistant for the dentist as needed.

* Serve as a dental health educator to answer patient inquiries within the hygienist's knowledge sphere.

* Carry out aspects of the total dental health program related to primary prevention.

* Administer anesthesia.

* Perform other tasks as needed.

Site Work Location

Each employee has a primary work site(s) to which they are assigned. Eagle View Community Health System (EVCHS) has multiple sites; therefore, any employee may be asked to work at another site if the need arises. Administrative employees and contracted service providers may work from their homes, as agreed upon in their contract. No employee shall be asked to perform work outside his/her job description or capabilities.

Qualifications

* Current license as a hygienist in the State of Illinois is required.

* Working knowledge of patient care as applied to dental care.

* Ability to handle dental instruments and materials carefully and dexterously.

* Ability to relate to dental patients for dissemination of dental health education.

* Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

* Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Work Environment

The performance of this job takes place in a health center setting. The employee will be exposed to moderate levels of noise in a moderately paced environment. There will be frequent patient or client contact over the telephone and in person. The employee will also work with other EVCHS departments to deliver optimal service and meet health center goals.
