Job Description

  • vision is exercised over other dental personnel and includes the training of assistants and the promotion of dental health through educational and informational media. Work is supervised by the Dental Director and is guided by established dental health practices. TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides dental services in accordance with both the Illinois Dental Practice Law and AMC’s clinical operations procedures  Reviews patient’s health history prior to providing any treatment  Performs clinical dental services for clients which include examinations and treatment planning, oral cancer screenings, amalgam and composite restorations, pit and fissure sealants, bonded restorations, extractions, root canal therapy, minor oral surgery, periodontal treatments, full and partial denture construction and other required procedures Institutes and supervises oral hygiene practices. Instructs clients in proper practices of dental hygiene and in procedures pertinent to provided treatments Responds to inquiries by clients and staff on dental health and on provided treatments Assists ancillary staff as necessary in providing appropriate and timely treatment, which may include taking radiographs, disinfection of work areas, and other duties typically done by clinic staff as needed Refers dental patients to other treatment facilities as needed. Acquires and supervises the maintenance of supplies and equipment necessary to perform all types of dental treatments Serves as a consultant for dental problems to other medical and para-medical service providers in the Health Center or other health facility Assists in promoting and maintaining good public relations among community groups and professional organizations Works cooperatively with the dental team, providing care in that setting Discusses treatment plan and treatment alternatives with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of AMC patients; represent AMC’s dental programs to the community as requested Resolves questions or complaints within the scope of authority Attends staff meetings or other meetings as assigned Directs professional and auxiliary staff during treatment of clients Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients and departmental personnel from other professional disciplines within the institution, clinic or community setting Prepares and delivers lectures on dental health education to professionals and community groups Performs other related duties as assigned. This position requires compliance with all of Alivio’s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission standards, all policies and procedures and Corporate Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages and supervises staff listed below, including training and managing performance to meet departmental efficiency and performance measures in keeping with the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Personnel Policies and Procedures and prevailing employment laws as appropriate. Dental Assistant Dental Hygienist KEY INTERRELATIONSHIPS: Dental Director Medical Director Providers WORKING CONDITIONS: OSHA Category 1 – Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, sits for extended periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting books and files of approximately 35 pounds or less; may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor or operating a keyboard. Work may include operation of a motor vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited dental school with a DDS or DMD degree Certification or Licensure: Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Illinois. Current DEA and DPS registrations for the purpose of writing prescriptions Experience: Two years of professional experience in the practice of general dentistry Special Training: Shows evidence of fulfilling health requirements of Health Staff and the state of practice Demonstrated Competencies: Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English and Spanish. Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of modern dentistry and of prevention of dental diseases. Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to dentistry and to public dental health. Considerable knowledge of dental health problems in the community. Ability to supervise professional, para-professional, and management support personnel.

The Dentist provides comprehensive dental care, including diagnostics, restorative procedures, and oral surgery, while supervising dental assistants and hygienists. They are also responsible for patient education, maintaining clinical standards, and promoting dental health within the community.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school and possess a valid Illinois dental license. A minimum of two years of professional experience in general dentistry is required, along with current DEA and DPS registrations.
