Position Summary

The Per Diem Staff Physician provides episodic and as-needed medical coverage at the Biola University Student Health Center, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to Biola students. This position supports continuity of clinical services and assists with maintaining adequate physician coverage during periods of increased demand, staff absences, and other operational needs.

Alignment with Theological Positions

The person who fills this position must be someone who personally agrees with Biola’s Articles of Faith and Statement of Biblical Principles and who is supportive of the positions taken by Biola as contained in its Eschatology Teaching Position. As such, this person may not speak against or act in a manner inconsistent with these positions during the course of their employment at Biola.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary and urgent care services to a diverse college student population.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and selected chronic health conditions.
• Conduct patient histories, physical examinations, and appropriate diagnostic testing.
• Prescribe medications and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide preventive care, health education, and counseling.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies as appropriate.
• Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Collaborate with nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other Student Health Center staff to coordinate patient care.
• Participate in clinical consultation, referrals, and follow-up care as needed.
• Maintain compliance with university policies, professional standards, and applicable federal and California regulations.
• Provide clinical coverage on an as-needed basis, including same-day and scheduled appointments.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Current, unrestricted California physician and surgeon license.
• Current DEA registration.
• Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related primary care specialty.
• Current BLS certification.
• Experience in outpatient primary care, urgent care, or college health preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate, culturally responsive care to a diverse student population.

Work Schedule

Per diem, anticipated approximately 12 hours per week, with shifts scheduled as needed to support Student Health Center staffing and patient care needs. Work hours are weekdays between 8:00 a. m. and 4:30 p. m.

Work Environment

The Biola University Student Health Center provides outpatient medical services to enrolled students in a university setting. The physician works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to support the health and well-being of the student community.

Hiring Range: $108.00 - 110.00 per hour
