CityVet Externship Program
CityVet is now accepting applications for its Veterinarian Externship Program, offering third- and fourth-year DVM students the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience in a veterinarian-led practice environment.
This program is designed for students seeking meaningful mentorship, real-world clinical exposure, and insight into practice models centered on autonomy, collaboration, and long-term career growth.
Program Overview
CityVet externships provide a structured yet flexible clinical experience in small animal general practice settings, with many locations also offering urgent care exposure.
Eligibility: 3rd and 4th-year DVM students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools
Duration: Two-week externship blocks, with flexibility to accommodate university rotation requirements
Stipend: Competitive stipend, paid via direct deposit on the first Friday of the rotation
Locations: CityVet clinics available across multiple states
Housing: Housing is not provided; however, CityVet can share accommodation recommendations from prior externs
International students: Eligible if enrolled at an AVMA-accredited university and authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
What to Expect
Externs work alongside experienced veterinary teams and receive hands-on exposure that may include:
Small animal general practice medicine and surgery
Client communication and case management
Collaboration with technicians and support staff
Exposure to clinic operations and team leadership
Mentorship from practicing veterinarians
Externships are customizable whenever possible, allowing students to align their experience with individual clinical interests and career goals.
