Important Remote Work Requirement

This is a fully remote position that must be performed from an approved remote work location in Texas. Candidates must be legally eligible to practice pharmacy in Texas and must maintain a secure, private, and compliant workspace within Texas for the performance of their job duties. This position does not require regular onsite work at an Rx Route pharmacy location.

Note: The hourly pay range listed above represents a good-faith estimate of the minimum and maximum target for this position. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on the candidate's geographic location, job-related skills, experience, and education.

Position Overview

Rx Route is seeking experienced Staff Pharmacists for full-time and part-time remote positions supporting our pharmacy operations.

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, accurate, compliant, and efficient execution of assigned pharmacist duties within a technology-enabled pharmacy environment. Working under the direction and oversight of the VP of Pharmacy, this position plays a critical role in prescription verification, clinical review, patient safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, documentation, and remote pharmacy workflow.

The successful candidate will exercise sound professional judgment, maintain a high standard of accuracy and compliance, and contribute to the development of safe, scalable, and efficient pharmacy operations.

This is a remote, hourly position supporting pharmacy operations through secure technology platforms and established communication and workflow systems. Both full-time and part-time schedules are available.

Key Responsibilities

Prescription Verification & Patient Safety

• Review and verify prescriptions for legality, accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.
• Confirm the correct patient, medication, strength, dosage form, quantity, directions, and labeling.

Evaluate prescriptions for potential clinical concerns, interactions, contraindications, duplications, inconsistencies, and other patient-safety issues.

Perform final pharmacist verification prior to product release in accordance with applicable law and pharmacy procedures.

• Identify and resolve medication errors, discrepancies, and potential safety concerns before dispensing.
• Promptly communicate and escalate clinical concerns requiring additional professional review.
• Maintain the highest standards of prescription accuracy, patient safety, and professional judgment.

Regulatory Compliance & Professional Practice

Practice pharmacy in accordance with applicable federal and Texas laws, regulations, and professional standards.

• Follow Rx Route SOPs, policies, quality systems, and operational procedures.
• Maintain compliance with applicable requirements governing remote and technology-enabled pharmacy practice.
• Identify and promptly escalate compliance risks, operational deviations, and potential violations.
• Support pharmacy inspection, audit, accreditation, and regulatory readiness.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation.
• Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable privacy requirements.
• Stay current with applicable pharmacy practice requirements, regulatory changes, and organizational policies.

Remote Pharmacy Workflow & Collaboration

Perform pharmacist verification and clinical review through approved pharmacy management systems and secure technology platforms.

Collaborate with onsite pharmacy technicians, fulfillment personnel, pharmacists, and pharmacy leadership to support prescription workflow.

Provide professional direction and support to pharmacy technicians and interns within the applicable legal scope of practice.

Review and address workflow issues, prescription discrepancies, and operational exceptions through established communication channels.

Coordinate with the VP of Pharmacy and operations leadership regarding prescription volume, staffing needs, workflow issues, and resource requirements.

• Maintain timely communication with onsite and remote team members.
• Support efficient workflow while maintaining patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Quality Assurance & Error Prevention

• Identify, document, and report medication errors, near misses, and quality events.
• Participate in quality improvement and medication-error prevention initiatives.
• Support root-cause analysis, corrective actions, retraining, and process improvements.
• Assist with CAPA and Plan of Correction (POC) activities when necessary.
• Identify recurring workflow or system issues and communicate opportunities for improvement.
• Promote a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and patient safety.

Documentation & Record Integrity

• Maintain accurate and complete pharmacy records, verification records, and required documentation.
• Complete required documentation accurately and in real time.
• Maintain audit-ready records and support inspection readiness.

Ensure all pharmacist actions, interventions, clarifications, and required communications are appropriately documented.

Protect the integrity, confidentiality, and traceability of pharmacy records.

Support documentation and traceability throughout prescription, verification, compounding, and fulfillment workflows, as applicable.

Patient & Provider Communication

Communicate professionally with patients, prescribers, pharmacy personnel, and other authorized parties as required.

Respond to prescription clarification requests and clinical questions within the pharmacist's scope of practice.

• Communicate medication-related concerns clearly and professionally.
• Escalate complex clinical, regulatory, or operational matters to the VP of Pharmacy or appropriate leadership.
• Maintain a professional and patient-focused approach in all communications.

Collaboration & Operational Support

Collaborate with the VP of Pharmacy, APIC, Training & Development, Operations, Fulfillment, and other pharmacy leadership teams.

• Provide professional input regarding workflow optimization, quality improvement, and process development.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency without compromising patient safety or regulatory compliance.
• Support operational scaling, process development, and organizational growth initiatives.

Communicate effectively across clinical, pharmacy operations, fulfillment, technology, and leadership functions.

Participate in virtual meetings, training, quality initiatives, and operational projects as required.

Professional Authority & Scope

The Staff Pharmacist performs assigned professional duties under the direction and oversight of the VP of Pharmacy and in accordance with applicable law, pharmacy policies, SOPs, and established procedures.

• Within the applicable legal and organizational scope, the Staff Pharmacist is responsible for:
• Prescription verification and final pharmacist review.
• Clinical review and identification of potential medication-related concerns.
• Professional supervision and direction of pharmacy technicians and interns, as applicable.
• Exercise of independent professional judgment in the performance of assigned pharmacist duties.
• Identification and escalation of patient safety, quality, regulatory, and operational concerns.
• Accurate and timely documentation of pharmacist activities and interventions.

The Staff Pharmacist does not assume the responsibilities or authority assigned by law to the Pharmacist-in-Charge. Matters involving patient safety, regulatory compliance, significant operational risk, or issues outside the pharmacist's assigned authority must be promptly escalated to the VP of Pharmacy, Pharmacist-in-Charge, or appropriate leadership.

Required Qualifications

• Active pharmacist license in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
• Eligible to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas.
• Prior pharmacist experience; 2+ years preferred.

Strong Working Knowledge Of

• Texas pharmacy laws and regulations.
• Applicable USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards, as relevant to the pharmacy's operations.
• HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.
• Prescription verification and medication safety practices.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment independently in a remote environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with remote and onsite pharmacy teams.

Ability to use pharmacy management systems, electronic health records, secure communication platforms, and other technology required for remote pharmacy operations.

Reliable internet connection and a private, secure workspace suitable for handling protected health information (PHI).

Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all company security and privacy requirements.

Ability to meet the scheduling requirements of the position, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high-volume prescription fulfillment or pharmacy operations.
• Experience in a compounding pharmacy environment.
• Experience with sterile and/or nonsterile compounding, as applicable to the pharmacy's operations.
• Experience with telepharmacy, remote verification, or technology-enabled pharmacy operations.
• Experience with pharmacy quality assurance programs, audits, inspections, or accreditation processes.
