Registered Dietitian - Behavioral Health

Primary Location: Mesa, AZ. 85201 | Additional Coverage: May provide coverage at Phoenix and Maryvale locations as needed

Compensation: $35-$42 per hour and up based on experience (RD eligible $30.00 per hour, will increase to $35.00 after passing exam)

Full-Time

Schedule(s): Monday–Friday with some remote flexibility; weekends as needed.

Job Summary

Make a meaningful impact on patient health through expert nutrition care. As a Registered Dietitian, you’ll assess, plan, and implement individualized nutrition interventions that support recovery and improve quality of life for patients in an acute hospital setting, including Behavioral Health services.

You’ll collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams, provide evidence‑based guidance, and ensure compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will help patients thrive—one meal at a time.

What You'll Do

• Conduct nutrition assessments for patients within required time frames.

Obtain timely and appropriate data and analyze/interpret findings based on evidence‑based standards.

• Provide nutrition support primarily for Behavioral Health patients within an acute hospital environment and collaborate on medically complex cases as needed.
• Provide appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and plan/goals. Once implemented, the clinical dietitian will monitor progress toward established goals.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning activities, as appropriate. Work closely with other disciplines including OT, PT, speech, and social services to ensure collaboration of care.
• Perform nutrition diagnosis after identifying the problem and collaborate with the patient's medical team to clarify contributing factors.
• Develop, implement, and/or make recommendations for individualized nutrition interventions, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, as clinically indicated.
• Review and approve therapeutic diets to ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
• Assess and evaluate nutrition approaches that consider age‑specific needs as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic considerations.
• Work collaboratively with dining service staff to assure accuracy of diet prescriptions and support a high level of patient satisfaction.
• Provide appropriate follow‑up in accordance with the patient's treatment goals, referring patients for outpatient counseling, community resources, or home services, as appropriate. Conduct in‑services and educational presentations to hospital or department staff.
• Maintain accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, as required.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new dietitians and DTRs.

Function as a preceptor to dietetic students and interns. Plan learning experiences, teach, and evaluate the performance of students and interns.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification or RD-Eligible.
• CDR card
• ServSafe certification
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
