Psychologist Main Duties/Responsibilities

• Provides psychological assessments and communicates findings/interpretation to multidisciplinary treatment team.

• Evaluates the full spectrum of mental health conditions for patients within a multidisciplinary treatment setting.

• Administers and interprets neuropsychological and psychological testing, making recommendations based on findings and completes written report.

• Provides results of neuropsychological and psychological testing feedback as appropriate to patient, multidisciplinary treatment team, family, referent, outpatient providers, and aftercare providers.

• Develops, implements, and updates the mental health portion of patient treatment plan as needed.

• Provides psychotherapy to treat mental health issues as warranted.

• Provides consultation to clinical staff, program directors and other organizational leaders on the management of patients with mental health issues.

• Provides patient mental health-related treatment updates to treatment team members, families, referents, and outpatient treatment providers as warranted.

• Collaborates with patient’s outpatient mental health provider on diagnostic, treatment and aftercare issues related to mental health issues as warranted.

• Provides aftercare recommendations, including provider referrals as warranted.

• Supports management of psychiatric crises including patient intervention, risk assessment, and recommends change in level of care as warranted.

Assists multidisciplinary treatment team in identifying appropriate next level of care (NLOC) and transferring patient to appropriate level of care by facilitating voluntary and involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations.

• Participates in Admissions Caron Admissions Screening Team (CAST) process for psychologist’s unit or other units as needed by providing consultation to the intake department on screening patients with mental health issues for admissions, and helps facilitate alternate placements, when needed.

• Responsible for accurate and timely recordkeeping in accordance with psychology state board of ethics guidelines, CARF, DDAP, and AHCA regulations, as well as Caron Policies and Procedures.

• Participates in the Psychology on-call rotation which provides Caron staff with access to psychological assessment of emergent patient mental health issues after regular business hours as warranted.

• Facilitates and/or participates in staff meetings, supervision, and other consultation meetings.

• Provides, when necessary or requested, ongoing education and training to all levels of Caron staff on the management of mental health disorders.

• Prepares and presents materials applicable to neuropsychological and psychological services to local, regional, and national audiences on behalf of Caron.

• Accepts special projects related to the enhancement of psychological services and Caron’s strategic planning.

• Supervises postdoctoral fellows and/or psychology practicum students, as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Ph. D./Psy. D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required.

• State licensure for independent practice is required.

• Minimum of two years’ experience (including pre-licensure hours) in the field of psychology providing psychotherapy and psychological testing.

• Experience working with substance use disorders is preferred, not required.

• Must possess appropriate legal clearances.

• If in recovery, two years of uninterrupted sobriety preferred.

Knowledge/Abilities

• Must have appropriate training and experience using current psychological testing instruments, including neuropsychological, diagnostic, personality, and cognitive testing.  This includes an understanding of a test’s psychometric properties, limits of instruments and ability to interpret and synthesize data from multiple tests.

• Training and experience providing effective psychological interventions and treatments for a range of mental health disorders.  Must have the ability to evaluate the efficacy and effectiveness of interventions and therapy with which you are not familiar.  Must be willing/able to seek out information on best practices to treat diagnoses with which you are less familiar.

• Training in current theories of child, adolescent, and adult psychopathology, as well as use of these theories to conceptualize patient issues and develop and implement effective treatment planning.

• Demonstrate ability to provide culturally competent treatment working with ethnic, racial, and sexual minorities.

• Able to use current research to guide assessment, treatment, and testing decisions.

• Ability to be effective within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

• Must possess strong organizational skills.

• Some familiarity with current psychotropic medications and their interactions.

• Must be familiar with or demonstrate willingness to become familiar with all local and state laws concerning voluntary and involuntary hospitalization procedures.

• Act as a role model in decorum, verbally and behaviorally consistent with recovery principles.
