Medical Director, Medical Oncology/Hematology

We are seeking a Medical Oncology/Hematology Medical Director to join Premier Health Partners (PHP) and provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals diagnosed with cancer and related conditions.

This role will serve as a clinical leader of the multidisciplinary cancer care team, providing expert diagnosis and treatment for patients with a broad range of cancers and hematologic disorders, including leukemia and lymphoma.

The Medical Director will collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, pathology, surgery, primary care, and other specialists to develop individualized treatment plans and deliver coordinated, evidence-based care across the continuum of diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative physician with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered cancer care.

Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Diagnose, stage, and formulate treatment plans for patients with various cancers and hematologic disorders.
• Prescribe and administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and other treatment modalities in accordance with current guidelines.
• Conduct bone marrow biopsies, lumbar procedures, and other diagnostic procedures as necessary.
• Provide supportive care including pain management, symptom control, and a psychosocial support.
• Offer counseling and information to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options.
• Manage long term follow-up of patients, including surveillance for recurrence and addressing side effects of treatment.

Collaboration & Teamwork

• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in tumor board meetings to discuss complex cases in treatment plans.
• Serve as a mentor and resource for other healthcare providers including residents, fellows, and medical students.

Research Quality Improvements & Education

• Engage in clinical research to advance the field of oncology and hematology.
• Stay current with emerging treatments, technologies, and scientific advancements in the field.
• Educate patients, families, and healthcare staff about advances in cancer treatment and research period
• Present research findings at conferences and contribute to peer reviewed publications.
• Participate in lead quality performance projects
• Leave medical students, residents, and fellow programs.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
• Comply with all regulatory and institutional policies and procedures.
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, Commission on cancer and other administrative activities.
• Develop policies procedures and protocols that best support practices in the ecmc mission, vision, in values.
• In collaboration with the CMO, assist with staff supervision and strategic planning of the medical oncology and hematology program.
• Develop and improve the call schedule to ensure adequate coverage

Qualifications

• Significant clinical experience in medical oncology, hematology/oncology, or a related oncology specialty required.
• Prior physician leadership, medical directorship, program development, or administrative leadership experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary oncology or healthcare environment and collaborating effectively with physicians, clinical leaders, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution required.
• Completion of an accredited residency and fellowship training appropriate to the candidate's specialty required.
• Current or eligible for medical licensure in the State of New York.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Medical Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, or an appropriate related specialty.
• Current certification and credentials required for clinical privileges and scope of practice.
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical oncology and contemporary cancer care practices.
• Demonstrated understanding of multidisciplinary cancer care, evidence-based treatment, quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.
• Ability to develop and advance clinical programs and foster collaboration among physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical staff, and organizational leadership.
• Strong understanding of healthcare quality, regulatory compliance, clinical documentation, and applicable standards of care.
• Exceptional clinical judgment, communication, relationship management, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead change, build consensus, and advance strategic initiatives within a complex healthcare environment.
