Work Shift

Summary

Provides occupational therapy services to patients, including assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, and related documentation and communication, in order to increase the patients’ functional independence.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Assesses the needs of the patient using evaluation tools and clinical observations
  • Develops treatment plans, including goals, and methods to achieve identified goals

Provides goal directed treatment consistent with current OT practice standards and/or ensures that OTAs deliver goal-directed services appropriately

Selects and uses learning strategies to share occupational therapy treatment choices and outcomes with patients, family, care team and consumers

  • Effectively uses available information sources to report therapy activities and patient performances
  • Promotes growth and development while evaluating performance and maintaining standards of assigned individuals
  • Authorized to have access to medications within their scope of practice
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited academic institution
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of North Carolina

Work Experience

New graduate or experienced clinicians considered

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Professional competency as a general practitioner of OT as defined by certification and licensure

Ability to select age appropriate functional goals and treatment techniques for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients

  • Interpersonal skills that promote cooperative patient and peer behavior
  • Accurate written and verbal English

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate orally, read, write, hear, and visually assess patient status
  • Ability to utilize proper body mechanics when examining or delivering care
  • Ability to transfer and transport patients of various body weight and composition
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, lift, turn, twist, sit and walk frequently
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of and manipulate equipment
