Interventional Radiology Career PATH

This Interventional Radiology career path provides a progressive advancement opportunity from Specialty Technologist to Interventional Radiology Technologist I and ultimately Interventional Radiology Technologist II, with increasing levels of technical expertise, procedural complexity, leadership, and departmental responsibility.

At the entry level, Specialty Technologists develop foundational skills in interventional imaging, patient care, and procedural support.

As an Interventional Radiology Technologist I, individuals expand their expertise in advanced procedures such as angiograms, thrombectomies, embolizations, line placements, and neuro interventions while gaining proficiency in technologies including digital subtraction angiography, cone beam CT, 3D reconstruction, and fusion CT.

Progression to Interventional Radiology Technologist II reflects mastery of highly complex neurovascular and peripheral interventions, extensive knowledge of imaging equipment and inventory management, and the ability to support diverse patient populations across multiple service lines.

Advanced-level technologists also serve as preceptors and educators, lead training initiatives, act as department super-users for new technologies, participate in on-call coverage, and contribute to departmental operations, quality, and patient safety initiatives, demonstrating both clinical excellence and leadership within the interventional radiology team.
