About the Role

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff.

This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and managing crisis situations to ensure patient safety and well-being.

The technician is responsible for maintaining accurate clinical documentation and assisting with discharge planning to facilitate smooth transitions for patients.

By working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the Behavioral Health Technician helps create a therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and stability. Ultimately, this role contributes to improving patient outcomes through compassionate care and effective crisis intervention.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in behavioral health or related field preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with mental health disorders or severe emotional disturbances (SED).
• Basic knowledge of clinical documentation and patient care protocols.
• Ability to perform crisis intervention and manage emergency situations calmly and effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician or equivalent credential.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems for maintaining clinical documentation.
• Training in advanced clinical assessments and mental health treatment modalities.
• Familiarity with discharge planning processes and community resource coordination.
• Previous work experience in inpatient or outpatient behavioral health settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and support to individuals with mental health and severe emotional disturbances (SED).
• Conduct clinical assessments and assist in monitoring patient progress according to treatment plans.
• Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage and de-escalate emergency situations safely.
• Maintain thorough and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and incident reports.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to develop and update discharge plans ensuring continuity of care.
• Assist in creating a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients.
• Participate in team meetings and communicate patient needs and concerns effectively.

Skills

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for tracking patient progress and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.

Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are used daily to respond promptly and effectively to behavioral emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety. Clinical assessments and mental health knowledge enable the technician to assist in evaluating patient needs and tailoring care plans accordingly.

Skills in discharge planning support the transition of patients back to their communities or other care settings, promoting continuity of care. Overall, these skills combine to provide compassionate, informed, and responsive patient care in a dynamic behavioral health environment.
