Surgical Physician Assistant - Full-Time - Hand & Reconstructive Surgery - Los Angeles

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Hand and Reconstructive Surgery team. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with one of our leading Orthopaedic Hand Surgeons and an established PA, supporting a busy, high-volume outpatient surgical practice.

This position is primarily clinic-based and offers significant opportunities for hands-on procedural care. The PA will assist with in-office procedures including mallet finger pinning, mass excisions, fracture reductions, open carpal tunnel and trigger finger releases, and tendon repairs.

The PA will also independently perform procedures within their scope of practice, including incision and drainage (I&D), laceration repair, and foreign body removal. On occasion, the PA may also serve as a first assist in the operating room.

The ideal candidate will be clinically confident, adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical practice. You will exercise independent clinical judgment while partnering closely with physicians, APP colleagues, and the broader care team to provide high-quality, coordinated care.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient evaluation and management of patients with hand, upper-extremity, and reconstructive surgical conditions.
• Perform patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments, and develop safe, effective, patient-centered treatment plans within scope of practice.
• Assist with and independently perform appropriate in-office procedures and interventions within established privileges and scope of practice.
• Provide occasional first-assist support in the operating room.
• Initiate and provide care in accordance with established treatment plans and in collaboration with the supervising physician.
• Provide patients and families with education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, medications, recovery, and follow-up care.
• Review relevant diagnostic studies and clinical information and communicate findings and recommendations appropriately.
• Complete timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation in the electronic health record.
• Maintain clear and timely communication with the supervising physician and broader multidisciplinary care team regarding patient status and plans of care.
• Collaborate effectively across the practice to promote continuity, efficiency, and an exceptional patient experience.
• Provide cross-coverage for other providers when their PA is out of the office.
• Perform additional clinical responsibilities as determined collaboratively with supervising physicians and departmental leadership.

Clinic Schedule

• Monday through Friday, with hours generally varying between 8:00 a. m. and 5:00 p. m.
• Potential participation in a half-day Saturday clinic, typically on a quarterly rather than monthly basis.

Qualifications

Education

• Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.

Licensure & Certification

• Current, unrestricted California Physician Assistant license.
• Current national certification as a Physician Assistant.
• Current DEA registration/certificate as required for the position.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Physician Assistant strongly preferred.
• Prior experience in Orthopaedics, Hand Surgery, Reconstructive Surgery, Plastic Surgery, or another procedural/surgical specialty strongly preferred.
• Experience performing or assisting with office-based procedures highly desirable.
• Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and patient management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, safety, and the patient experience.
