Job Summary
Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the busy practice of Dr. Sameer Nagda, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and conditions of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, with a particular emphasis on shoulder replacement surgery.
This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with an experienced surgeon and become an integral part of a collaborative clinical and surgical team. The Physician Assistant will participate in the full continuum of patient care, including clinic visits, surgical care, postoperative follow-up, patient communication, and call coverage. Experienced PAs are encouraged to apply, and motivated new graduates with a strong interest in orthopaedics will be considered.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Evaluate new and established patients by obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and developing treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including imaging and laboratory testing.
- Diagnose and treat orthopaedic conditions involving the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
- Provide preoperative education and postoperative care for surgical patients.
- Assist in surgery as assigned.
Perform office-based procedures, including injections, wound care, suture and staple removal, and other procedures within the PA's scope of practice.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with state regulations and practice protocols.
- Monitor patient progress and provide continuity of care throughout treatment and recovery.
- Triage and respond to patient calls, clinical questions, and urgent concerns.
Participate in call coverage for Dr. Nagda’s practice.
Coordinate referrals, rehabilitation, physical therapy, and other services necessary for comprehensive patient care.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical expectations, recovery, and preventive care.
Maintain timely, complete, and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical team members, therapists, and other members of the care team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current or eligible Virginia Physician Assistant license.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Two years of clinical Physician Assistant experience preferred; qualified new graduates are welcome to apply.
- Orthopaedic, sports medicine, or surgical experience is preferred but not required.
- Willingness and ability to participate in call coverage.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and medical decision-making skills.
- Ability to function with appropriate autonomy while recognizing when physician consultation is needed.
- Interest in orthopaedics, sports medicine, and surgical patient care.
- Ability to manage a busy workload and prioritize competing clinical needs.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex medical information to patients and families clearly and compassionately.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a fast-paced, team-based practice.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard office technology.
- Commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience.
- Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position is performed in medical offices, examination rooms, and surgical settings and includes frequent contact with patients, families, clinical staff, and other healthcare professionals. The role involves exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.
The Physician Assistant must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and perform clinical procedures requiring manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. The position may occasionally require assisting with patient transfers, working irregular hours, and responding to time-sensitive clinical needs.
