School Based Mental Health (SBMH) Therapist - (Brown, Door and Kewaunee Counties)

Position Summary: Responsible for providing therapy services, ensuring client access and acclimation to mental health services, providing crisis stabilization to NEWCC clients, and documentation/psycho-social screening support to NEWCC providers in accordance with policies and procedures of NEWCC & DHS and current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. This position will be a 10-month position, paid out over 12 months.

Essential Functions of the Job

• Provide pre-admission consultation, including screening and intake services.
• Maintain a school-based therapy caseload and facilitate therapeutic groups as needed.

Conduct psychosocial intake assessments, including obtaining information about chief complaints, diagnosis, medication, as well as psychiatric history.

Use appropriate assessments tools based on client needs/provider specialty and initiate client treatment plans by identifying needs, strengths, weaknesses, and formulating strategies for mental wellness.

Assist providers with completion of clinical and legal documentation requested by NEWCC patients (i. e., social security disability forms, transportation authorizations, letters of diagnosis, etc.). **Under direct supervision of NEWCC mental health practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, or psychiatric APNP.

Provide psychoeducation to students and their support systems on prevention and best-practice treatment enhancement techniques.

Maintain knowledge of other community systems/resources, make external referrals for higher level of mental health care when necessary, and identify unmet needs to ensure referrals are accomplished and that quality services are available.

Represent NEWCC at community trainings related to increasing clients' awareness to community mental health services and resources.

Consult with NEWCC staff regarding psychosocial needs that encompass social, ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity of individual clients.

• Coordinate care for students with the SBMH Program Manager and school staff, as appropriate.
• Participate in staff meetings, intra service client staffing, and care coordination as needed.
• Maintains an electronic medical record that accurately reflects the services provided and client's growth toward treatment goals and closes charts in timely manner per NEWCC policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education: Completion of master's in psychology, counseling, or social work degree through an accredited program meeting requirement for Wisconsin Certification. Obtained license through the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services as an Advanced Practice Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor In-Training, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Counselor.

Experience: Experience in provision of an eclectic problem-solving approach to clients seeking short-term interventions and problem resolution. Familiarity with a range of issues such as poverty, community, family violence, HIV, human sexuality, AODA, criminal justice systems, chronic or terminal illness and pain, parenting skills, are desirable. Experience with current EPIC EMR a plus. SAC-IT/SAC/CSAC, EMDR, and/or brain spotting certification preferred

Expertise: Ability to provide culturally competent services to a variety of clients in a direct responsive manner. Willingness to confront traditional barriers in respect of various servicing patients with various mental health diagnosis. Strong interactive "team" skills within a primary medical care setting.

Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy toward patients. Able to develop teaching and counseling sessions, as needed. Must be able to adapt to changing situations and circumstances. Must be willing and able to assume and delegate patient needs, as a member of the health care team.
