Locum PA (Physician's Assistant) General Surgery

Description. This contract, on-site position offers a unique opportunity to provide high-quality surgical care within a reputable medical practice. As a Locum PA, you will play a critical role in supporting our surgical team and ensuring exceptional patient outcomes.

In this role, you will work directly with attending surgeons and healthcare professionals to manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. Your clinical expertise and ability to adapt quickly will be essential in this dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

Assist attending surgeons in the operating room, including first-assist duties during general surgery procedures.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the surgical team.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as labs and imaging, to guide patient care.
• Provide preoperative and postoperative care, including wound management and patient education.
• Document patient encounters accurately and thoroughly in electronic medical records.
• Respond to emergencies and provide surgical coverage as needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare providers.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a master’s degree or equivalent certification.

Current and unrestricted PA license in the state of practice.

Associate-level experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in general surgery or a related surgical specialty.

• BLS and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and procedural skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with surgical teams and patients.
• Ability to work on-site in Pequannock Township and adapt to a contract, fast-paced schedule.
• Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and documentation standards.
• Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and ethical practice.
• Flexibility to cover varying surgical schedules and on-call requirements as needed.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts

No call required

Case Types: General and colorectal surgery

Duties: First assist and ICU rounding

EMR: Epic

Must be board-certified

Robotic experience preferred
