Job Description
This is a contract, on-site position offering a unique opportunity to provide essential women's healthcare services in a supportive and professional clinical environment.
As a Locum Ob/Gyn physician, you will deliver comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care to patients, including prenatal care, labor and delivery, routine gynecological exams, and surgical procedures. You will collaborate with a dedicated team of nurses, midwives, and support staff to ensure the highest standard of patient care while maintaining continuity throughout your assignment.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive obstetric care, including prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum follow-up
- Perform routine and complex gynecological examinations, screenings, and diagnostic procedures
- Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests such as ultrasounds, Pap smears, and blood work
- Diagnose and treat gynecological conditions, including infections, fibroids, and endometriosis
- Perform surgical procedures related to obstetrics and gynecology as required
- Manage high-risk pregnancies in collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine specialists
- Counsel patients on reproductive health, contraception, and menopause management
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records for all patient encounters
- Collaborate with nursing staff, midwives, and allied health professionals to coordinate patient care
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure continuous patient coverage
- Adhere to all clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Provide patient education and support throughout the continuum of care
Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Valid medical license to practice in the state of Lafayette
- Associate-level experience in obstetrics and gynecology
- Strong clinical skills in prenatal care, labor and delivery, and gynecological procedures
- Proficiency in performing and interpreting diagnostic imaging relevant to Ob/Gyn
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Experience with electronic medical records systems
- Ability to work on-site and participate in on-call schedules as needed
Level III Trauma Center
Schedule: Monday-Thursday (7p-7a) + 24-hour weekend shifts
In-house call coverage
Daily Volume: 10 patients, 5 admissions
Annual Deliveries: 1,600
Responsibilities: Manage OB/GYN patients, deliveries, admissions, inpatient care, and ED consults
Required Procedures: C-sections, amniocentesis, laceration repair, and gynecologic surgery
OB ultrasound interpretation preferred
Support Staff: APPs and midwife
EMR: Cerner
Must be board-certified
ABLS required
