Job Description

SHIFT: Any (United States of America)

The Division of Anatomic Pathology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for several positions in the non-tenure academic clinician or clinician educator tracks at any rank.

We are recruiting board-eligible or board-certified Pediatric Pathologists with broad clinical skills who are interested in a dynamic practice combining clinical excellence with academic and teaching opportunities.

Pediatric Pathologists with expertise or interest in gastrointestinal pathology, liver pathology, or renal pathology are especially encouraged to apply.

Program Highlights

  • Join a team of 16 pathologists with deep subspecialty expertise across numerous disciplines of pediatric pathology and a strong commitment to patient care, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Our pathologists are supported by 28 staff members, including dedicated support roles in pathology informatics, decedent affairs, and research coordination.
  • Our pathologists serve as integral members of multidisciplinary clinical teams and provide diagnoses that directly guide patient management and treatment decisions across CHOP.
  • The Division is recognized nationally for its expertise in pediatric and perinatal pathology and serves as a referral resource to outside institutions for specialized pediatric and perinatal pathology consultation.
  • Annually, the Division handles approximately 30,000 surgical specimens, 1,200 fluid specimens, 1,300 surgical consult cases, 780 frozen sections, and 145 autopsies (40 inhouse/pediatric; 105 consult/perinatal).
  • The Division maintains a robust Digital Pathology program with real-time scanning of all glass slides, an archive of >800,000 whole slide images, onsite and remote digital sign-out capabilities, and innovative efforts in AI.
  • Our ACGME-accredited 1-year pediatric pathology fellowship program matches 2 fellows per year, and we provide monthly clinical rotations in pediatric pathology to regional pathology residency programs.
  • Shared call rotation of 4-5 weeks/weekends per year.
  • Leadership development and faculty mentoring are core strengths of the Division and Department.

Education Qualifications

  • Doctorate Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of hospital policies, practices and protocols as well as applicable regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. (Required proficiency)
  • Skills in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, decision-making. (Required proficiency)
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients and the public. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports. (Required proficiency)
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and electronic). (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Medical License - in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and any states practicing in - upon hire - Required and
  • Board Certification / Eligibility – Pediatric Pathology - upon hire - Required
  • Additional application through the University of Pennsylvania will be required for Faculty appointment.

Salary Range

$36,279.00 - $678,760.00 Annually

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

Candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and be board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatric Pathology. A valid medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required upon hire.
